Hysterectomy?

Has anyone had a hysterectomy due to a prolapsed uterus? If so, was it successful? Did you have any bladder problems after? Did you have to have a catheter fitted during surgery?

I had a hysterectomy due to uterine prolapse. I would definitely recommend it. I did have a catheter post surgery but it was taken out the following morning. They wanted to ensure I could wee normally before discharge. I also had bladder and bowel prolapse repairs.
Ovestin for vaginal atrophy helps with my bladder problems now. My surgery was eight years ago and I often need to rush to the loo. I think I have another, milder prolapse.
It is important to keep doing your pelvic floor exercises and not carry very heavy weights permanently. I think I have carried too much since recovering from the surgery.

Thanks. I'm just worried because I suffer from chronic cystitis- I've had it for 20 plus years so it's not due to my prolapse - so I'm terrified of having a catheter.
