What is wrong with my hand?!

Last night it become painful to bend my ring finger. This happened out of nowhere when I was driving. This morning my hand is red around two of the joints (only one hurts though) and weirdly swollen. Taken Pirotin and it has done nothing. Any idea what weirdness could be going on here?

Gosh that looks sore! Any chance you've been bitten by anything? If piriton hasn't worked then I'd say infection rather than irritation - is it hot to touch? Dsis reacts really badly to insect bites and usually has to get antibiotics in quick.

How are you feeling in yourself?

No bites as far as I know, and it’s the joint that hurts more than anything. It is hot to touch compared to other hand. Pharmacist gave me some Pirotin this morning but it’s not made a jot of difference yet

I would be quite concerned about cellulitis with that. Draw a line around the red area with a biro to keep track of any worsening of the red zone, and get yourself seen by a GP or minor injuries.

I don't tend to call on the Doctor for much, but if you have absolutely no bite marks that would account for that, I would go get seen ASAP.

Mark it up spk to GPs surgery and if can't get in and red is growing/pain getting worse, A&E , It does look like a bite to me but also could be an infection of some sort

Swissrollover · 17/06/2024 15:33

Have you applied ice/ cold compress? Are you due another dose of Piriton yet? Have you also taken a non-drowsy antihistamine like cetirizine or fexofenadine or loratadine?

Is it itchy in any way? It does look like a fairly normal bite reaction for me, although I'd expect it to be itchy too.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 17/06/2024 15:33

Could be a bout of gout?

FloofPaws · 17/06/2024 15:34

Do you get psoriasis by any chance? It could be swollen joint/ enthesitis
If it's hit though it's worth a call to the GP or walk in centre

longdistanceclaraclara · 17/06/2024 15:36

Gout or infection of some type? I'd get it seen.

Seeline · 17/06/2024 15:38

Very possibly cellulitis which needs treating quickly. My DH is prone to getting it. I would try and get to see a doctor soon.

BiancaBlue · 17/06/2024 15:38

I'd get it seen in a&e but only if it spreads/becomes very painful/you develop a fever.

11thHourForever · 17/06/2024 16:43

It’s not itchy at all (which is weird). No gout or psoriasis issues in the past. I will go to GP if it gets worse. At the moment it’s staying the same - no worse , no better and it hurts to bend my finger. Very odd!
