How to comfortably sit with sciatica?

I’m in the middle of a flare up, triggered by excessive coughing & sneezing (allergies). I can’t sit comfortably anywhere, not in the car, while working, or just relaxing. The pain is manageable but can be excruciating at times.

I’ve tried the usual stretches, have my lower back support cushion, a special pillow for sleeping, but nothing seems to be working at the minute.

You can't really, it's the worst thing for back pain!
If you're relaxing then lying down with a pillow between or under your knees
Sitting I find best on a dining chair type firm one rather than say a sofa or soft chair
Move as much as you can and if you're able to stand and work

I find mine eases if I sit cross legged. But obvs that's only useful for watching TV!

Otherwise I do standing pigeon pose every time I get out of the car. Car is the worst culprit really.

On my office chair I splay my legs from my knees so sit normally but then feet go out wide from my knees. It sort of rotates the hip a bit which helps.

Firstly, love the username! Though I was more of an Angel fan!! 😂

I know sitting is the worst for it but there’s only so much walking and standing I can do before it starts getting painful as well.

I definitely found lying down better (mine was L5/S1 and I got cauda equina so had surgery)
They had to give me gas and air to get me out the MRI Blush
