Sinuses - pain only on one side

I've been congested for about 10 days now and the left side of my face has been really painful, particularly the sinus under my cheek bone/above my top back teeth. I had a filling in one of the teeth a few days ago and the dentist said no abscess. I do have a narrower nasal passage on the left but although I'm congested on the right as well, there's no facial pain in the right side. I noticed when the dentist looked at the x ray, only the teeth were visible, not really the gum/root area. Can they be certain it's not an abscess without seeing the whole of each tooth? My dentist are usually very good so I'm hoping they aren't skimming over the issue.
My 7yo has been snotty for about a month with various colds so it's probably just that but I feel like someone has punched me in the cheek/teeth atm. It even hurts when I make certain facial expressions. Heading to the shop later for nasal spray as lemsips aren't cutting it any more.
