7 year old son blinking compulsively

Since he was 3 or 4 my son has gone through periods of compulsive blinking, usually for a few weeks at a time, then it would go away for several months. We didn't bother too much about it, but now he's started again, and instead of a blink it's a real roll of the eyes and ducking his head at the same time. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm worried because it's now noticeable and I don't want him to be teased at school...

my dd1 went through a phase of excessive blinking. the doc suggested it was allergy induced...sort of hayfever-ish. I had my doubts but anyway it went away.

Not quite the same situation as yours, though have you had his eyes tested? spoken to your doc?

Yes, had his eyes tested, nothing wrong. The doctor's been a bit hopeless - said it would probably go away. It's really bad now though - like a real rolling of the eyes which looks quite freaky - and it annoys my boy too. He says it feels like his brain is taking over and he can't do anything about it. Help! I'm really worried.

In that case def take him back to the doc or to a different one, and demand that this eye rolling is investigated.

Maybe when it was just blinking the doc thought it right to wait and see but I would say the eye rolling and the fact that it worries both you and your son indicates that you need it checked out.

Maybe someone else will be along who might be able to enlighten you in the meantime.

My friends 9 year old daughter is actually doing something very similar at the moment, except she's crurling her lip up and winking at the same time? It sounds funny, but when i was with her yesterday it actually really concerned me.

I mentioned it to my friend and asked how long she had been doing it, and she said a couple of months . I'd never seen her do it before

Unfortunatly all my friend does is tell her off when she does it, so i think it kind of makes it worse iukwim? I think it's like a nervous twitch which has got out of control.

Hopefully she'll grow out of it, but i'm not sure she knows she's doing it half the time.
