Ectopic pregnancy? Diarrhea?

Hello,

I am 4 weeks 2 days pregnant. About a week ago (day 23 of cycle) I had some pink discharge, and a sharp shooting pain in left overy. Since then I have had more pain/twinges/aches on left side. As well as achy pain in hips. I also had some brown spotting (not had this for two days now). I have been to my EPU and they did a scan. It came out inconclusive as I was either two early, miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy. They have checked my HCG levels and they have doubled over 48 hours so they do not feel it is a miscarriage at this stage. They have offered me a scan for a weeks time.

I forgot to mention to them however that I have had diarrhea for two or so days. Last two mornings, it was just watery stool. My tummy feels like a washing machine in the night, I go for a poo and feel better. No urge for rest of the day. This morning, it was a harder poo and ended up watery towards the end.

I'm now in a world of panic. Maybe this is ectopic? My mum says that surely I would be going more than once a day? For anyone who has experienced an ectopic before, what was the diarrhea like?

Is the doubling HCG a good sign?

A bit of background on me - two previous pregnancies. My son passed away when I was 33 weeks pregnant and my daughter is almost one. I find being pregnant terrifying!

(I should also mention that I have IBS, but don't remember watery stools in last pregnancy)

I had an ectopic and I don't remember having any diarrhoea. I didn't have pain until I was about 7-8 weeks.
Your HCG doubling is reassuring, usually an ectopic would cause the HCG to increase at a slower rate.
4.2 weeks is too early to see anything on a scan. Easier said than done but try not to worry, chances are it's a healthy pregnancy. Try to distract yourself until the next scan if you can, I know how hard it is.

I am currently 22 weeks pregnant! The scan was just too early and they believe the pain was due to havibg ovulated from that side. I continued to spot until 12 weeks and (knock on wood) no spotting since. Speaking to the sonographer and nurse, they said that the majority of inconclusive scans are due to being too early. The sonographer also said that she disagrees with anyone having a scan at 4 weeks as it creates so much anxiety for the Mum when they don't expect to see anything this early

Everything is crossed for you and I hope it all goes well. Im sorry that your having to deal with this. Remember that our bodies do weird things such as spot or shooting pains, and it does not always equal the worst case scanrio. I keep trying to tell myself that anyway!
