I’m 30 and recently noticed a yellow bump appear in my eye, I wear contacts occasionally and am also breastfeeding so eyes feel very dry, the optician has said they are in both eyes and are pingueculas, quite common , but usually appear in people older than myself,
basically I’m a bit worried (as it’s already noticeable ), so worrying it doesn’t grow too much etc!
if anyone else has had similar I’d be grateful to hear x

I've had one for 20 years+. It's never bothered me or grown that I've noticed. In fact,I'd forgotten I'd got it until I saw your post. I'm 54 and used to wear contacts.

FloofPaws · 09/06/2024 16:30

I'm 52 and had one for over 25 years, also used to wear contacts for a short while but unsure if there's a connection as it may have been there longer than the start of contacts

Ah thank you so much for your replies, that’s very kind of you both, that’s very reassuring to hear, the optician said contacts wouldn’t have caused it but did seem strange as I’d only used them a year and it popped up! X

@Jadeyyy I have one in each eye. Not sure when did it first appeared. I only found out at my recent eye appointment. Apart from dry eyes are you getting any other symptoms? And what treatment are you using?

Jadeyyy · 10/07/2024 22:15

@Nets888 ah thank you, well I can’t seem to tolerate contact lenses at the moment but I’m hoping it could be due to still breastfeeding, my eyes are quite dry so I use Hycosan drops, otherwise all fine it’s just a pain not being able to use contacts and was worrying it will grow but have been reassured by comments here!
Mine are in both eyes too although one is worse than the other! How are yours?

This thread is not what I thought.

Meep meep.

@Jadeyyy my eyes are dry, mostly probably caused by hormones and pinguecula. Does your eyes get a bit red sometimes due to the pinguecula?

theeyeofdoe · 10/07/2024 22:56

Sunglasses needed!

Jadeyyy · 11/07/2024 19:28

@Nets888 ah yes they can look a bit red too , they are so annoying aren’t they! I think my contact lenses may have caused them , ive only worn them under a year but my eyes got so dry during pregnancy and did read online they can appear after chronic irritation, how long have yours been there if you don’t mind me asking? Mine have been only a couple of months

@Jadeyyy I only found out a couple of months ago. My left eye has been feeling gritty so I had a proper look at my eye, and noticed a yellow patch. Went to optician and they said pinguecula in both eyes. They said it's very common.
