Haven't done a bm since wednesday but that was soft and formed. In a lot of pain arround bellybutton and am incredibly bloated. Havent felt hungry but have been taking prune juice.

You need to eat a pear, and about 8 -10 prunes. Forget the juice.
And have some strong coffee.

silvershark22 · 08/06/2024 07:29

The juice is a handful of prunes softened in hot water and blended. I thought this nay be better then whole prunes

You need the bulk fibre from the prunes, so eat them whole

silvershark22 · 08/06/2024 08:11

Am not feeling well. I had some tinned fruit coctail and kiwi about half an hour ago and have just been sick.

So it's only been a couple of days? How were your bowel movements up until Wednesday? I know we're all different but it's quite normal for me to go a couple of days without a bowel movement. I know it's very uncomfortable.
Have lots of water, lots of fruit. I find a big bowl of All Bran always gets things moving - but be sure to have lots of water to flush it through. I'm sure you'll go soon.

SallyWD · 08/06/2024 09:37

If you've been sick maybe you have a stomach bug?

TheCheeseThief · 08/06/2024 10:14

Sounds more like a stomach bug.

silvershark22 · 08/06/2024 10:49

I have just been sick again and it was a brown colour and smelled like pooh.

OP posts:
Withswitch · 08/06/2024 10:51

Is there any reason you are blocked up? I'd drink a pint of water but if it continues then I'd go to the walk in centre.

silvershark22 · 08/06/2024 10:53

I normally go a couple of times a day. I have been seeing gastro though as had paralytic ileus after surgery and she said bowel was verry loaded. Was advised to take omeprazole, gavisgon advanced and a probiotic.

OP posts:
silvershark22 · 08/06/2024 10:55

Not sure there is a reason for it other than things being really slow to get back to normal after surgery.

OP posts:
Withswitch · 08/06/2024 10:58

I find omeprazole backs me up. But as you're recovering from surgery I would go to a&e in this situation.

IWantToBeASleepingCat · 08/06/2024 10:58

I'd get in touch with out of hours GP.. especially now you have told us about previous complications. Sounds like an impacted bowel.
They might advice laxatives or asuppositories .

Mabelface · 08/06/2024 11:04

You need medical advice today, given the foul smelling vomit.

I've just recovered from a 2 week bout of constipation that extra fibre, senna and suppositories didn't solve. I needed a stool softener which resolved it in a few days.

I did have a reduced appetite and was very bloated, however at no point was I sick.

Call 111 now. Be prepared for a hospital visit.

silvershark22 · 08/06/2024 11:16

111 online says to call 999. While uncomfortable and bloated dont think need an ambulance so grabbing a bag of stuff and going to A&E.

OP posts:
silvershark22 · 08/06/2024 12:14

They have dohne obs at the hospital and bloods.

OP posts:
Mabelface · 08/06/2024 12:42

I'm glad you went. Let us know how you get on.

silvershark22 · 08/06/2024 14:22

Have seen a dr and being sent for xrays. Hsave been given antisickness meds.

OP posts:
BCBird · 08/06/2024 14:29

Good luck OP. Good call not using an ambulance.

Shiveringinthecountry · 08/06/2024 23:34

How are you now, OP? I'm glad you went to A&E, given the appearance and smell of your vomit.

silvershark22 · 09/06/2024 02:40

Sorry forgot to reply when i came home. They said the xray showed loading but no obstruction. Have said to use over the counter laxitives but no advice on what to use. Gastro had told me to use prune juice abnd aloe tablets and not laxitives so am a bit confused what i should do

Glad xray was ok but not convinced they did a good examination eg told me to keep cloths on. They have said not distended but clearly things are bloated as have had to go up a size and to maternity cloths. Am still being sick so not sure whats happening really.

OP posts:
silvershark22 · 09/06/2024 07:21

Convinced somethoings not right though. Now havent weed since yeasterday afternoon and have pain in the right side of my back in the kidney area. Dont seem dehydrated as moth is wet but frustrating that somethings clearly not right.

OP posts:
Withswitch · 09/06/2024 07:42

If you've taken laxatives they will be diverting all the water into your stool to get things moving. I'd try and drink more.

silvershark22 · 09/06/2024 07:49

Yes am trying to drink as much as possible. The problem is when i drink i am still being sick. So am having frequent small ammounts. Wish i had known how much the surgery would mess up my system.

OP posts:
Mabelface · 09/06/2024 09:00

Did they tell you to use a stool softener or laxatives? The former does divert fluid to your bowel and make you wee less, but that's still a long time to go without.
Movicol is what I used and it took a few days to kick in. Lactulose is another.

Don't be afraid to go back if you're not convinced they've not done enough.
