Broken collar bone, anyone?

Hi

Mainly asking for people’s experiences of healing with and without surgery (plate and screws).

Mine is broken really badly, have 3 pieces
instead of one and one of them has turned vertical. Been a week of unbearable pain now. Got some codeine but not helping anymore. A&E said surgery

I’ve insisted on surgery when speaking to a consultant but I have a funny feeling they don’t want to touch it as they keep cancelling (England, public healthcare not private).

From what I’ve read/heard from friends, it shouldn’t be this bad after a week?

Well they need to do something if the bones aren't aligned otherwise it won't heal properly.

Well, 2 pieces are ‘aligned’ but not really because the third piece of bone that was between them is now in front of it and vertical. Approximately 3
cm long. They even tried telling me it wasn’t there but I pointed it out on the screen and they finally agreed it was indeed a multiple fracture.

I was initially told I wouldn’t have the plate but after I insisted on someone explaining on the x-ray how it would heal without one, I was allowed to speak to a consultant who admitted surgery was an option.
