Kidney stone procedure

My brother is in hospital with kidney stones. Tomorrow he is going under a general anaesthetic which is making him anxious. They have to put something up his penis to do something to the stones then he has to come back a week later. Has anyone else had kidney stones or know anyone who has had this procedure? Just want reassurance. Thanks.

I used to be a radiographer and x rayed the patient while they had the procedure done. He won't know anything about it .

I work in theatres and seen the procedure many times. He will be asleep. They usually last the stone into small bits the leave a stent in the ureter to keep it open so the small bits can pass. Going in a week later is to have the stent removed.

Ps perfectly normal to be anxious about an anaesthetic but it’s very safe nowadays. Out normal but not yours so we understand he will be worried. Anaesthetists are amazing people.

Thanks for your replies. What is the latest time they would do the procedure? He has been wearing a gown since 9.30am today and was told to be ready but is still waiting.
