Home testing kits

Just wondering if anyone has had any success with home testing health kits?
I was reading about thyroid week and how lots of people have low thyroid levels and the symptoms are quite vague.
I was thinking about getting a home test kit because they're quite cheap. Then also thought it might be good to check for diabetes/cholesterol/anaemia etc too, maybe even female hormone levels.
Any recommendations for tests? Or would I be better doing one where you send a sample away to be analysed?
I know I could get this for free via GP but by the time I've got an appointment I don't know if it's worth the bother, also not anything specifically wrong with me to justify NHS testing but I do feel tired and have put weight on recently, and knowing if I need to tackle my blood sugar levels and cholesterol can't be a bad thing
