Mother of all headches first on getting up in the morning

I have been suffering with a pretty bad head cold for nearly two weeks now, but I think I'm over the worst of it - however, the last two mornings after I've got up I've had the WORST headaches ever which lasted about an hour or so. Hurt when I move and was going into my neck. I had similar on Monday all day but it was the other way round (neck hurting spreading up to my head). I have been mega blocked up with my cold and using Vicks Sinex for over a week - the last dose I had was on Friday as thought I might have been taking it too long. DH suggested I might have a bit of hayfever so I had some Beconase Fri pm and yesterday am & pm. Didn't take any this morning as had headache and worried I might be allergic or something. Really hoping I don't get the same tomorrow as got to leave for work at 7. Am cutting out all the things that I think might have caused it - no alcohol tonight, no Vicks Sinex or Beconase and no lie in tomorrow. Anyone got any ideas what it could be?

are you drinking plenty of water? I find that I get headaches like this sometimes and it is a combination of the central heating and being slightly dehydrated!

dollybird I have had the same for the last 2 weeks - started in my neck but then moved to behind my eye - pain so severe that I was vomitting.

Been on 3 lots of anti bi's as doc thought it was sinus or even a virus - now waiting for a brain scan as they cannot find out what it is.

Hope you feel better soon - I really sympathise, its awful

Dollybird - do you have a boiler and has it been checked recently? Just wondering about carbon monoxide - sorry to scare you but it was the first thing that came to mind - with you waking up with them two days in a row?

I get 'banging ' headaches when I have a cold...a mixture of sinusitis and chronic dehydration! Horrible, isn't it? Mine make me want to cry.

thanks everyone - only had a bit of a headache this morning which came on when I was at work. Managed to see it off with paracetamol. Hopefully might be the last of it as feeling much better now.
(boiler is 7 years old btw - we had it installed)

droopytits - has your doc thought of hemipligic migraines?

NorthernLurker · 07/04/2008 21:38

Glad you're feeling better - your boiler should be serviced regularly and you need a CO detector just in case

droopytits · 07/04/2008 21:51

no Elf - what are they? I do suffer with migraines anyway, but not sure what hemipligic migraines are? I was wondering about cluster headaches because I also get really bad pressure behind one eye.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 07/04/2008 21:58

I was diagnosed with this in December. It started with a horrible headache which seemed worse over one eye, made me physically sick, dizzy, pain in one place.
I had been to the doc who told me it was viral, I thought it was sinus problems.

I went to the hospital as I woke up with the same pain, but I also got a loss of feeling down one side. I had to have a ct scan - Initially one doc thought I'd had a stroke which I thought was possible too, but another doc kept promising me it was just a headache. I'd had this type of headache for a month before ending up at the hospital, though it doesnt typically get that bad.

sounds just like mine Elf - I am having a scan on the 22nd - mine are coming and going now - today i had a really bad one, but yesterday i wasnt too bad with it - at least it isnt every minute of the day now like it was in the beginning.

What have they done to treat you?
