Small purple bruises on arm keep coming back

As the title says I have small purple bruises that appear on my bicep. This is the fourth time they have appeared in the same place on my bicep. They go away for a week or two then come back.

I have not done anything to knock them, or lifted anything heavy.

They are not pin prick bruises but spots the size of a rubber on the end of a pencil.

Any one have this happened to them? Any idea what it could be?

Guess I'm the only one.

Just concerned as they keep coming back in the same place every couple of weeks, and the same small bruises and I can't explain a reason for them.

I would get it checked by your gp and show them the photos. It could be anything, however I am wondering if it is a fungal infection if the bruises are all circular and similar size in the same place. The body is a weird and wonderful thing !

Hi I've had similar this week, any news OP?

glittercunt · 24/06/2024 10:50

Is it the inside of your bicep? My skin there sticks to other skin, when sleeping etc, and when it rips apart it bruises.

bilbodog · 24/06/2024 10:59

Ive had similar and dont know what causes it. Ive had single purple spots on and off before but this is the first time ive had a group of spots on my forearm. Photo was last week - they have faded now.

Thanks for the responses.

Not had them back again so far. Have plenty of other bruises but I can account for all of those.

I did have one small similar bruise in same place but as it was only one I have not been to gp.

Will keep an eye on things and will go to gp if they return with no explanation.

I had something similar happen on my arm a few years ago and I realised it was my gym bag strap - it was slightly rough and would 'graze' my arm and leave little purple graze/bruises. I changed my gym bag and it never happened again.

Are you on any medication?
SSRI antidepressants can cause bruising as they affect platelet function.
Lansoprazole can also cause bruising.
Just a thought which might be helpful

AutumnLeaves1990 · 25/06/2024 22:02

Do you regularly carry a bag on this part?

Chasingsquirrels · 25/06/2024 22:06

It isn't an an animal is it?
I had weird patterns of bruises on my upper legs, eventually worked out they were paw-prints!

Something you carry rubbing or knocking?

minmooch · 26/06/2024 08:42

I am in no medication. Don't usually carry a bag.

Am active but can usually account for most of my bruises relating to walking dogs, kayaking, etc.

These were weird bruises, that even my best friend commented on when they appeared for the third time, same place, same bruises.

However I have had a longer time now when they have not reappeared so whatever it was seems to have gone.

I'm watching this thread as I regularly get the same bruises in the same place with no explanation, always on my left arm. Someone once said it's perhaps a vitamin D deficiency

Morechocmorechoc · 28/07/2024 20:03

Hi OP, did you get to the bottom of this?

Me too! Thought I was the only sweaty person that has upper arm skin that sticks, rips apart and bruises like that. I did ask the GP who ran clotting factor tests and there was nothing wrong.

I have the same thing and they come in the same place every time. It started happening after my hip replacement surgery but I do have a history of inflammation & an autoimmune condition that has some lupus like tendencies (mixed connecting l connective tissue disease). I'm thinking it's a flare up if vasculitis. I just found some pictures of that doing a Google lens search. Yours looks similar to mine. I don't know how to post a photo here but if I figure it out I'll post one. Have you found out anything more? My primary care doctor had no idea what it was. I will probably need to get my C-Reactive Protein drawn (blood work) to see if it's an inflammatory issue.

How are you now @minmooch ?

minmooch · 11/11/2024 20:01

@Nomoreplease2016 all good thank you. No more strange bruises. Never found a reason for why they happened. Just have to put it down to one of those things.
