Does this look like a fungal infection?

My toenails have been weird since chemo 18 months ago, with horizontal lines appearing every time I have a CT (well that's what I think anyway) but they now look like this! My thumb nails are also looking like they have tiny pits in but no yellowing or anything, just like tiny pin pricks.

I am taking a hormone inhibitor, high dose calcium for osteopenia and various supplements if relevant.

I'm due on holiday this week and now I don't know if I should repaint them 😭

Horizontal lines can be beau’s lines.
Discolouration, pitting/flaking/thickening can be fungal though so you could have both things going on.

Yes that looks like could be fungal - I had similar after chemo plus swimming, not sure if its chemo related or swimming related but the fungal nail things have helped a lot and almost solved them both, my one begins with M, but Scholl have a similar one.

Enjoy your holiday. I would either wear something closed toe or nail varnish to disguise.

Could be! I have bad toenail fungus and in terbinafine after I couldn’t get rid any other way

StoneTheCrone · 04/06/2024 21:17

Yes. The only thing that gets rid of it is Terbinafine but the relapse rate is high. Cut down on sugar as that feeds it. Use an anti-fungal shoe/foot spray.

Thanks all. I might pop to the pharmacy tomorrow.

My husband got rid of his with TCP. Every night after his shower he dabbed it on. It worked. He'd tried everything else from the GP and over the counter.

I treat fungal nails every day and I wouldn’t be treating your nails from the pics for fungus. Looks more like beau’s lines. Chemo really messes with nails and so do other meds. Treat them gently and in a few months you may see normal growth. If you are massively concerned about the look see a foot health professional or podiatrist.
