Strange throat thing

So I've had a thing happening lately where if I swallow saliva, it sometimes goes down the wrong way and makes me cough. It sometimes happens when I breathe as well. It never used to happen, and now it's happening a couple of times a week for the last couple of months. Anyone got any ideas what that could be about?

This must be quite distressing. See your Gp, it could be something like acid reflux causing excess saliva. You need someone to have a quick look at you anyway because saliva in the lungs could lead to chest infections.

I have been having crackling in my lungs on and off, but my GP said it's nothing major and doesn't need treating.

Did you tell them you are frequently aspirating saliva into your lungs? If not do tell them as i say even gavsicon may help if it's something as basic as reflux.

No, I didn't; I didn't think it was doctor-worthy, to be honest. I was there for other reasons.

I have the adult version of silent reflux and my symptoms are very similar. I now take Lansoprasole and it's much better.

Sorry I should have said, don't ignore it as left untreated it can lead to esophageal cancer.

Any problems swallowing should be investigated. You need to see your GP about this specific issue.
