Period moan

Feeling sorry for myself after second baby and wondering if other people would be happy to share their experiences.

Periods returned at 9 months and now on my 4th. They're pretty regular in terms of length of cycle so that's something to be grateful form.

But...

They're so so so much heavier than before and I just cannot bare tampons anymore. So gutted. They're just not comfortable. I did manage with them after first baby but wonder if I'm just too massive internally now.

Pads feel disgusting. Just constantly feel damp and sticky in them.

Have invested in some period pants and they are working better but even then, I just constantly feel 'wet' with the heavier flow.

I had sworn I wouldn't go back on the pill as I feel SO much happier without it, but at the moment, I'm tempted just so I can take it back-to-back and skip the breakthrough bleed.

How have others found periods after baby? I know a moon cup is potentially an option but not sure how I feel about anything internal yet.

Suffering here too! They are so heavy now after 2nd baby, I wear large sanitary towels with period pants and still leaking! Tried moon cup, but found it uncomfortable and difficult to insert. You could try the mini pill?

Greydiamond · 01/06/2024 13:08

Sorry to hear that. You get my full sympathy. I wonder if they will ease off in time. Perhaps others can give insight?

I did use the mini pill and I just bled non stop. That's when I got stroppy and said no more pill! Rethinking it now.

I got the coil fitted.
Downside, it did take about 6 months for the bleeding to drop off.
Upside, I haven't had a period in 4 years. No period pain. No blood at all. It’s been incredible.

I've had mine return since dc2. I'm on my 6 cycle now. The last one wasn't too horrendous, cramps have eased off which I didn't have previously but had since dc2.

The flow is still heavy but has returned to my usual 4 days. Days 1 and 2 being very difficult. Not looking forward to returning to work and having to factor this into a commute and working day.

I've just been using super long pads. Period pants and mooncups aren't for me. It the cleaning them that puts me right off and keeping the pants until they all need washing. Tampons are a no go. I've tried several different brands and weights. Was worried I was mega buckety. I'm not, I think I may just have settled into a slightly new shape and if I persisted maybe I could go back to using them. Possibly just need to get use to how it feels now.

After my first they returned as they were before. After my second oh my god. So heavy. After about 6 months I went to the gp, they did an ultrasound to check for fibroids and was told the scan was clear but they could "see my womb had been used" I said what do you mean, they explained that after pregnancy the womb is stretched so is larger so more blood to come out 😵‍💫 anyway fast forward 2 years and they have been slowly getting lighter over the last 12 months. They're still different now to what they were previously. I feel the first day is very heavy but getting more manageable then they get very light for around 4 days. Almost like the blood all comes out in one day rather than being more constant. Hopefully yours will slowly get lighter too op, I feel your pain 😬

Period pants!

So comfy, can be worn for a good few hours till I need to change to a fresh pair just like a pad and just give them a rinse then bung them in the washing machine on a hot wash 😊 I'll never use another pad or tampon again.

I had my third over two years ago and since having him for the first time ever in my life I've needed orange tampax. Orange!!

Sounds like babies at some point have impacted nearly all of us. It's a blooming good job we love them.

Thanks to those who have said they've seen improvements, even if it has taken years. There is hope yet.

I've just invested in 5 pairs of period pants and when I finish breastfeeding in the next month or so, I'll review my hormones then and consider the pill/alternatives like the coil.

Sending positive monthly vibes to you all. Can't wait for this miserable fog to lift in a couple of days.
