Bleed near optic nerve

I had a routine eye test yesterday and the optician showed me photographs of my left eye showing a bleed next to my optic nerve. She’s referring me to the hospital and said it could indicate glaucoma. I’m 43 and don’t have a family history of this. I feel like I didn’t really ask enough questions about what it might mean and now I’m feeling rather anxious about it. Are there other possible reasons for the bleed? I’m worried I’m going to lose my vision.

OP I think the best advice I can give would be to phone the practice and have a chat with the optician who examined you.

I'm an optician and I'm always happy to do this because I know people are shocked when they are told about a hospital referral and they don't take in any information or can't think of what to ask at the time.

People can come on here and give you a whole list of what this could be (nothing sight threatening) but without a full clinical picture it's just speculation and unnecessary anxiety.

Just my opinion 🤷‍♀️

Thank you for your kind reply. I called but the optician wasn’t in today, she’ll be back on Monday. They said that she had processed the referral.
