Unexpected weight gain

I’ve gained 7lbs in the last month and I don’t know why, I don’t eat much, only the same as usual yet I’ve gained this weight. I’m just wondering if anyone thinks I should be worried about this weight gain?

I read about fluid retention however I don’t have any oedema in my legs or arms so don’t think it’s that.

so yeah just looking for advice on what could be causing this

Finding this forum very helpful, lots of lovely people willing to help. So hopefully you can help me with this.

Ask for your thyroid to be checked - what age are you and have you had any hormonal disruption lately (pregnancy/menopause)? Underactive thyroid would also usually come with plenty of other lovely symptoms too, but not everyone gets all of them. It could be other things so a general blood panel would be useful to rule out anything else obvious.

I have an overactive thyroid which I’ve been taking tablets for, for over 10 years, I have a yearly thyroid function test, my last one was at Christmas and that came back satisfactory. Im already visiting my go recently for another issue so I’m going to bring this up with him when I’m there next. Thanks for your help!

Their version of satisfactory can be far from optimal. They had me feeling like absolute poop and unable to walk more than 100 yards telling me I was fine because the numbers said so. Changed to a different medication on advice of other thyroid patients and felt - not 100% - but miles better and functioning like a regular unfit middle aged woman! Make sure you find out the actual results and where they fit within the 'normal' reference range as it would seem the most likely culprit for unexplained weight gain. Obvs they should also rule out other options (any chance you're pregnant?!)

I’m going to contact my go practice on Monday and ask for all my results and the range they think is normal. Thanks so much for replying

I’m definitely not pregnant haha. I read about heart disease and kidney disease could possibly be a cause which scared me to death, but I would have thought I’d have more symptoms If it was down to this.

i will update when I have answers. Thanks again for your help
