Otomize ear spray!

Had pain in my ears for a few weeks which got worse. Left ear felt like it had fluid in it and was very sore. Went to the walk in clinic yesterday as the pain was so bad and was prescribed Otomize ear spray.

Thankfully the pain has subsided now but I actually hate using the spray because it makes my ears so full and clogged up! I have to keep shaking my head after a while to get it out because it feels so irritating like my ears are just full of water. Is this normal?

That's not my experience. You're just spraying it once, aren't you? If I felt like you described, I might clear my ear with a cotton bud* before using the spray.

*Disclaimer: never use cotton buds in your ear. You shouldn't put anything smaller than your elbow in there.

Press your tragus (ear flap) 3-5 times after using the spray, it helps spread the liquid down your ear canal so it shouldn’t feel as full.

And yes, it’s completely normal

Yes only spraying once! Have to do it once three times a day.

Sounds normal to me. I always feel like my whole head stinks of vinegar when I use it! 😂
I always lie on the opposite side I sprayed it on for a few mins so it starts to dry in the ear canal without feeling like it's swishing around in there.

I used it recently, and after a few days a load of gunk came out unblocking it. The otomize had been shifting it all hence the full feeling.

Okay good, thanks for the reassurance everyone.

While you’re here, could I just ask if anyone knows… the dr said both ears look inflamed and swollen inside. I had pain in both of them but the left one also feels full (even without the spray) is the feeling of fullness common with an ear infection or might that be a separate problem?

You can feel it in your ear when it first goes in but that soon goes.
I love otomize

It doesn’t go for me… I leave it for about 20 or 30 minutes and then it annoys me too much because it’s filled up my ears and I have to shake my head for it to drain out because I can’t get about my day with my ears like that. I know I have to use it to make them better but it makes me practically deaf, just feels like my ears are filled with fluid

Ah I don't know then.
It gives me such relief when I use it.

Yes my ears definitely feel full when I have an infection. I am usually deaf for several days. If Otomize doesn’t work (takes a few days) I once had some other antibiotic drop beginning with a G. Gentacamine or something. Prescribed by the GP.

Also try Ibuprofen to bring down the inflammation.

Thanks so much that’s really helpful

It worked pretty instantly. I used the spray and took ibuprofen and it calmed everything down straight away. It didn’t completely clear the infection though, I still had a bit of pain after 5 days so had antibiotics as well and that’s done the trick. The fullness in the ears after each spray lasted ages though and did my head in!! I had to keep shaking my head to one side to get it out because it drove me mad. It does eventually go away though, I’d wake up in the morning and the fullness would be gone until I used the spray again
