Verruca diaries - the banana skin method

Two verrucas on one foot.

One has been there for nearly four years and the other has been there for about 17 years. The long standing one has had everything thrown at it over the years. Bazuka of course (numerous times!), filing, tape over the top, leaving it, at least six treatments of cryotherapy and the thing still has never budged. Trying the banana skin method this time in the hope that I can have a lovely pedicure and foot massage before I go on holiday this summer! Tonight will be night four of banana skin and I think they feel a tad softer but it's hard to tell!

Please regale me with your banana skin verruca success stories! I need the motivation. How long did it take for yours to go?

17 years. Ffs. I’ve been trying for about 18 months and all that’s happened is another mini one sprouted next to it.

seedsandseeds · 29/05/2024 19:42

I had one for many years. The only thing that worked was the GP freezing it. They did one or two treatments and it was gone. Everything else failed.

Chanel05 · 29/05/2024 19:46

@Buffypaws that's very frustrating!

@seedsandseeds oh dear, that doesn't fill me with much hope then since it didn't work for me 🙈.

I was very dubious when the podiatrist recommneddd banana peel but it really worked. Strapped it on every night for about 3 weeks and it completely disappeared and hasn’t returned.

Soubriquet · 29/05/2024 19:48

I used the duct tape method. Worked perfectly!

Summertimer · 29/05/2024 19:49

I didn’t try the banana skin method. I went to a chiropodist because I didn’t know why the ball of my foot was sore. It was after lockdown so I’d not been near a swimming pool in ages. The removal method was called Swift. It was excruciating, expensive but successful.

DC had a large verruca on toe when he was 6. Conventional treatments were not esp successful. We kept on with them. On hols, he and DH came running back up the beach. DC said ‘it’s gone all big and blacker’ I prodded with a tissue, verruca fell off 😂

Notsandwiches · 29/05/2024 19:49

Banana skin didn't work for me but caprylic acid capsules did.

yoshiblue · 29/05/2024 19:51

I finally got rid of my last one (at least 15 years +) with the Bazuka freeze method. Once per week but pretty much 12 treatments. I'm sure it says to do 3 treatments max but I survived!!! I

KnittedCardi · 29/05/2024 19:54

My many heated, much abused one, finally disappeared with nail varnish. Only took a couple of weeks, and if course the nail varnish is really easy to use.

KnittedCardi · 29/05/2024 19:55

Oh, and it was one of those that had had babies..... A full cluster of them!

Roarr · 29/05/2024 19:56

When I was a child I had one mama verucca and lots and lots of baby ones clustered around it (yup..lovely). Wouldn't let them do anything that hurt to it and eventually I was recommended the banana skin treatment. I can't remember how long I trudged around with a banana skin attached to my foot - but it worked (or it was a sheer coincidence that my immune system kicked in right about then!) and they all disappeared completely and I haven't seen them since! Good luck, I'm a believer!

Chanel05 · 29/05/2024 20:09

@Summertimer I've looked into swift and it would be my chosen method but I'm breastfeed, so it's not allowed apparently!

Only thing that worked for me after about 18 years was needling. Painful though!

afternoonofthetriffids · 30/05/2024 07:23

Needling here also. Was a bit painful and expensive but I tried everything else with no luck for several years. It clearly kickstarted some kind of immune response because at the same time the verruca disappeared, a wart on my hand also just went away.

AllTheNaps · 30/05/2024 07:33

I think it's just trial and error OP and rotating all methods! Banana skin had varying success for me. I also had one for around 13 years, the podiatrist said hormones can make it trickier. I had tried rotating methods before to no avail but did the same thing when pregnant with DC2 which worked!

Of course getting pregnant to get rid of a verruca is a bit extreme but anything that might be a window of opportunity with changing hormones may help ☺️

Oh yes, it’s microwaves or something like. I can only be honest and say it was excruciating and I had to have 2 sessions.

It’s probs not as painful as child birth, but my DC was a general anaesthetic so I don’t know 🤣

papadontpreach2me · 30/05/2024 10:39

I did this with ds verucca. I had tried all kinds of treatments for a year and it hadn't worked. Used banana peel and it was gone in less than a week.

Rosecoffeecup · 30/05/2024 11:45

I tried apple cider vinegar - worked a treat for me so didn't need banana skin

Chanel05 · 31/05/2024 09:28

Question: should I be filing the verrucas daily?

This was the same for my DD. Had tried all at home methods mentioned here. She used a really dark nail varnish.

LostMySocks · 31/05/2024 09:57

I had several for years. Tried various treatments. They suddenly vanished when I changed my HRT medication. I think I'd gone through menopause and that hormone changed did something to my immune system

AgathaX · 31/05/2024 10:21

I had one for around 10 years. Tried everything and one day I realised it had gone when I'd given up trying to shift it. I had a bit of hard skin in the area for the next 3 or 4 years. Then it arrived back again and I've had it this time for about 10 or 12 years now. It's very frustrating.

rockingbird · 31/05/2024 10:21

Ooh I'm intrigued.. my son has one that just won't go!!!! I'll be trying the banana skin method.

anunlikelyseahorse · 31/05/2024 18:33

Corn plaster over verruca (the padded ones with a hole in. Small amount of cotton wool soaked in cider vinegar, large plaster over the top. Change the cotton wool and plaster morning and evening, corn pad only needs changing when it falls apart or drops off after showering.
Four weeks later, evening plaster change and dead verruca popped out! It's not come back. And I'd had for years, it was only when in started to get painful I did the vinegar treatment. It worked, but you have to persevere.

Question: should I be filing the verrucas daily?

We didn’t file at all. But if yours is several years old perhaps it would help.
