Verruca diaries - the banana skin method

Two verrucas on one foot.

One has been there for nearly four years and the other has been there for about 17 years. The long standing one has had everything thrown at it over the years. Bazuka of course (numerous times!), filing, tape over the top, leaving it, at least six treatments of cryotherapy and the thing still has never budged. Trying the banana skin method this time in the hope that I can have a lovely pedicure and foot massage before I go on holiday this summer! Tonight will be night four of banana skin and I think they feel a tad softer but it's hard to tell!

Please regale me with your banana skin verruca success stories! I need the motivation. How long did it take for yours to go?

It's so fascinating when the whole thing comes off. I may have already said this upthread but it is just So Fascinating....

I saw a video of a man who used a bit of crushed garlic under the banana skin and taped that to his verruca. It was next on my list to try but the at home freezing worked for us.

Buffypaws · 15/09/2024 19:53

OP did your verruca go yet?

my little one went after one SWIFT session and the bigger one went after two.

finally, freedom.

CaptainCarrotsBigSword · 15/09/2024 20:05

Swift was the only thing that worked for me. 10 years, tried the duct tape, apple cider vinegar, all the over the counter stuff. GP wouldn't do anything.

My swift course took ages though, I think I had 8 or 9 sessions in total. I only paid for five, luckily - I had my first one or two before COVID hit, and was allowed to keep going as it was classed as on going medical treatment. Podiatrist was bored out of his head and I was the first person that Swift didn't seem to be working for, so he just keep treating me until it finally died!

My son had a stubborn one once and bazooka wasn’t shifting it. So whether it was right or wrong I put Emla cream on (while he was asleep) and carefully dug out the root with one of those sharp pointy metal sticks from a spot/blackhead kit.
it did leave a small crater but it healed back to normal within a week,
worked a treat 😣

LuckysDadsHat · 15/09/2024 20:11

My 7 year old has just got a verruca. I bought Bazooka but after a week there's no change other than a lot of peeling skin. What can I use for kids? I had looked at Swift locally but don't know if they do it on kids, and also people saying it's very painful isn't great for a child!

Pandax3 · 15/09/2024 20:18

Nail varnish worked for me - painted it with dark nail varnish so it was completely covered (and surrounding area), kept reapplying every few days. About once a week I filed it down and reapplied the nail varnish. Eventually it just fell off.

astridforty · 15/09/2024 20:26

Not sure if they’d do swift on children, it’s one of the most painful experiences of my life. I imagine it’s similar to stepping on a nail and instead of recoiling, it’s pushed through your foot. It’s only about 5 seconds and feels like forever.

It removed my younger verruca after two treatments, the older - 10 years plus, is still hanging on and can’t bring myself to book back in.

Does the banana method work for warts?

I didn't find it that painful tbf, I must have a high pain threshold. It was on the max setting and the podiatrist did mention I was very good with it. Also I really fucking hated that verruca so in my mind, pain = it dying!

Buffypaws · 19/09/2024 09:47

@CaptainCarrotsBigSword i can’t believe you didn’t mind it!! It hurts SO much. My podiatrist thinks I’m fairly good as I just scream. Apparently the opera singer has to sing up the scales and someone else swears like a navvy.

I went back to what I thought was the last appointment yesterday expecting they were going to confirm it was gone but they said there is a tiny bit left and they microwaved me again 😭😭😭 level eight so very slightly less painful but still really hurt.

it feels like someone is lighting a fire in your foot
