Hydromol ointment - more than one formulation?

I was recently prescribed this, and the GP did express a reservation about using it -she said maybe use it at night when you can cope with it being very ‘ointment’ rather than ‘cream’

I was delighted with it. It smelt actively ‘pleasant’ and was nice to use, made me feel super-comfortable for bed, and really was of a texture that I could use any time.

So I went back to the chemist for more. But this lot smells much more like a petroleum product and does seem greasier and not just as comfortable to have on. Does this ring any bells?

Is it the same make etc as the other one?

It does seem to be. So I was wondering about subtle differences and how I might get the one rather than the other in future!

Wonder if they have changed the ingredients in order to make more profit.

Check the use by or manufacturing dates to see which is the newer one. If it's the one you like great. If not you might have to try and find a chemist with old stock and buy it up!
