Has anyone had a hard lump in the neck and all been fine?

Just looking for a bit of reassurance as my anxiety is through the roof!

I’ve found a hard lump at the base of my neck on the right hand side, next to the shoulder. It’s not painful at all. My doctor has made an urgent referral for an ultrasound as the size (around 2 inches), shape and the fact it’s hard concerned them.

Googling was definitely the worst thing I could have done whilst waiting for the scan appointment 😥

I had a pea sized lump in my neck after an ultrasound I was just told it was a swollen lymph node. Good luck with your ultrasound sound and hopefully it's something similar.

Yeah I have, really worried me at the time but it's been there for years now with no change, benign.

It is in a joint type area? Could it be a ganglion? They can be quite sizeable and pop up painlessly quickly. Try not to panic ( easier said i know) Dr's put all cases through as urgent, especially if they can see you're worried. I think any referral that isn't a routine will usually go through as urgent

Yes! I was told it was a salivary stone by a clueless GP.

I went private. It was not a salivary stone and a biopsy was immediately performed.

It turned out to be foreign material in a lymph node. I had the option of having surgery to have it out but ultimately decided as it's barely noticeable that surgery was introducing unnecessary risks.

I do sometimes wonder what foreign material it is (French maybe?) and how it got there.

Yes, a relative had one, though in a different part of the neck. The doctors did rush through all the tests and we all panicked but fortunately it turned out to be some kind of cyst. They did remove it but was nothing too serious. Fingers crossed for you OP.

Yes my son did. He had an urgent appointment for an ultrasound and it turned out to be a cyst

I have a hard calcified lymph node on my neck from when I had glandular fever 20 years ago! GP never concerned enough to request scan so has happily been there since .

My friend had one. I was so worried for her but she had a scan and it turned out to be nothing.

HighHeelsHurt · 28/05/2024 22:05

My DS did and it was something called a schwannoma. A benign tumour. She had to have surgery which has caused some nerve damage that won’t ever improve, but not cancer.

This is all reassuring- thank you!

I’m hoping the appointment comes through quickly 🤞🏻

I’m feeling pretty teary tonight which is silly when it could all turn out to be nothing!
