If it says "You are advised not to take alcohol with (your tablets)"......

....does that mean you really shouldn't have any alcohol because the combination will make you ill or does it mean it might just make your tablets less effective (or the alcohol more effective).

I don't have a problem not drinking (honest ) I just really fancy a glass of wine with dinner.

I have never refrained from drinking whilst on antibiotics.

Divastrop · 05/04/2008 19:21

if it says 'you are advised' it usually means they will be less effective/alcohol will be more potent.if its dangerous it normally says 'do not drink alcohol'.

what tablets are they,if you dont mind me asking?[nosey]

BettySpaghetti · 05/04/2008 19:24

Tablets are 5mg Prochlorperazine (presribed to stop dizziness as I currently have labyrinthitis)

I suspect if you drink whilst taking them, you will get dizzy.

Whether this is because the alcohol will make the tablets work less, or whether the tablets will make the alcohol work more... well, that's anybody's guess. The end result is the same

I never thought of it like that Squonk

Taking alcohol with it can make you feel very sleepy and could make your dizziness worse so for the sake of just one glass of wine which you say you could do without it's probably not worth t.

Thanks all -I decided against a glass in the end as I could really do without spinning out or feeling any more nauseous than I already do.

Saturday night dinner without a glass of wine isn't quite the same though

i'd have gone for it and watered it down.
