2yo allergy? Hayfever? Sinus infection?

My 2yo has had yellow snot for a week and a half now.
It's not consistent. Sometimes it's clear. Sometimes there's no snot at all and sometimes there is thicker, yellow snot..
Sometimes his nose runs, other times absolutely nothing at all.
It sometimes gives him a bit of a cough first thing in the morning I suppose where it's all sat in his nose etc..

Although he had a couple days where there was no yellow snot at all. And it seems that when he's at his dad's he says he's not snotty, then he comes home with me and he is again? Whether his dad thinks I'm over reacting I don't know.. we both have cats.
I always keep the house clean and Hoover regularly so it can't be dust surely?
Honestly I've tried to think of everything at this point?

He's been absolutely fine in himself.. no other symptoms.

Could this be an allergy or hayfever? Or does he need antibiotics for a sinus infection?
I can't seem to find anything online but someone must of had a child with yellow snot and knows how long it lasts or what is needed?

I did go to the doctors with him, who prescribed antibiotics but all I said was 'he's had yellow snot for a few days' and he was like 'have antibiotics just in case' but I don't want to give if they aren't needed? But it's getting to the point now I'm like hmm.. maybe they are?

Can anyone relate?

In my experience, hayfever is more streaming clear fluid runny nose than thick coloured snot.

But you could always try some Piriton and see if it eases.

Yeah I will try some piriton thank you!
Although when I've asked if he's been snotty at nursery they said no.. his dad says no.. only seems to be round me? Unless I'm the only one noticing it as it is minimal but it is yellow..

So strange!
