Have started having this for my heavy periods but after 2 days it hasn't made any difference, if anything it has been heavier.
Anyone experienced this?

I have friends on it. I think you may need to persist longer than 2 days to see the difference. Have you googled?

girlfrommars · 05/04/2008 17:41

Agree about giving it more time. It looks like it will probably help.

chocfest · 05/04/2008 17:45

Hi, i have been on it for about 4 years. without it i cannot leave the house for 2 days.

I take 3 tabs 4 times a day for the first 4 days and it really makes a difference.HTH

cece · 05/04/2008 17:56

I take it too and have found it a great help. No longer up 2 or 3 times in the night changing my tampons and so on. I find some months it seems to work better than other months. Not sure why but it does always make it lighter iyswim.

Nymphadora · 05/04/2008 18:00

But my periods only last 3 days and I am only to take when on so its never going to get chance to work??

Getting really big clots now , back at hosp in May but fed up and its now where I won't be able to work if I am on.

Nymphadora · 05/04/2008 18:07

Nymph I think you need to up the dose, do you get PMT, can you start them the day before you start bleeding?

chocfest · 05/04/2008 18:12

yes, i am def needing 3 tablets 4 times a day. have tried 2 and it doesnt work.

chocfest · 05/04/2008 18:14

cargirl, didnt know about starting it early with PMT, does it help, or what does it do?

i do get PMT so very interested in that.

CrackerOfNuts · 05/04/2008 18:14

I tried it for horrendous period pain, but it didn't make enough of a difference to stop me being curled up on the floor in a ball.

CrackerOfNuts · 05/04/2008 18:15

I didn't realise you could take 3 tablets 4 times a day.

chocfest · 05/04/2008 18:24

yes, thats whats on my prescription from my GP. it says take 2 or three tablets, 3 or 4 times a day for four days.

I am of the age where they tend to get heavier. was 39 when i suddenly had really heavy periods and 43 now.

Another poster said some months it works better than others, and i agree with that. They can get quite scant which is lovely.

Never had any problems before this age, always 4 days of normal period. Gosh what a subject!

lilolilmanchester · 05/04/2008 18:27

I take it and it works for me but it's never worked for a friend. I believe there are alternatives, perhaps you should discuss with your GP? With me, it works as soon as I take it so not sure that taking it for longer will make a difference?

halogen · 05/04/2008 18:41

My sister is on it and has found it brilliant. I agree, though, if it isn't working go back to your GP and tell him/her.

northernsoul · 05/04/2008 18:49

I too have tried Tranxemic Acid for my endemetriosis and to be honest it didnt make a jot of a difference. I persisted for 3 months then went back to the doctors.

Every body is different i guess, so it may be worth sticking with it a while and upping the dose. My doctor told me to start taking it 2 days before my period. Which is a bit bit tricky if you are not on the pill and you dont have a crystal ball

CarGirl · 05/04/2008 19:14

That is why I was asking about PMT, if you have indicators to know when your period is about to start, start taking the tablets beforehand.

I ended up resorting to the mirena coil for my heavy periods & contraceptive needs as my perods last about 9 days.

Nymphadora · 05/04/2008 19:19

have just started pill so will have no idea!

bodiddly · 05/04/2008 19:24

definitely worth trying to up your dosage and take it a little earlier if you can suss out your cycle. My dr only prescribed 1 no. 3 times a day but I upped it to 2 no. 3 times a day as it wasn't doing anything. It is still fairly heavy to begin with but at least I can leave the house and get to work!

northernsoul · 05/04/2008 19:49

Have you been put on the pill to help lighten your periods?
Think its normally 1-2 days after taking your last pill your period starts.
I have horrendous clots, went back to the doctors last week and i have anaemia.
It may be worth checking out if you are suffering with clots.
God they are a nightmare arent they..so debilitating grrrr

Nymphadora · 05/04/2008 20:57

pill is mini-pill so no break.

I think I am prob anaemic as very tired and keep passing out (though thats been going on for 6 months so not def linked!)

Got put on pill to help with periods and to reduce my PMT (VVV bad)

Time to start stocking up on the iron rich spinach and curly kale, when all you want to eat is chocolate

Nymphadora · 08/04/2008 18:48

OK I am getting fed up now, on day 6 and it has slowed down but not stopped. Am used to only 3 days of this and am back at work now so even less energy.
