I’ve been to the emergency dentist today following pain in the upper left of my mouth. They said there was no decay on my upper 6 and 7, they think the pain is due to plaque build up from my wisdom tooth and by my molar.

do the x rays confirm this? (Attached)

You can’t tell a thing from these photos. Film x rays like this need to be seen in person on a light box.

Are you a dentist @Lollygaggle? Please may I message you

Totally agree.
Not many places with film rather than digital these days!

Yes you can't tell anything from those photos. Why didn't the emergency dentist remove the plaque if that was the problem? I would book another appointment with a non emergency dentist. Good luck.

@DirtyDensDog ive been to my dentist today. They’ve drilled into the first molar and put a dressing in (they haven’t cleared the roots though) . They took another x ray and said there was no infection. The filling on the first molar is sort of close to the nerve, but not anything drastic and she was quite sure it wouldn’t need a root canal. My second molar has a filling in, but not near the nerve at all and I am getting pain in both teeth.

i just can’t understand it

The nerves supplying teeth are very close together and it can be very difficult to tell whether it's a top or bottom tooth ,let alone exactly which tooth is the problem
Added to that if you're anxious you may be clenching or grinding teeth that can make them painful.
Sometimes you just have to look at each possible cause and eliminate one by one. The dentist has put a dressing in the tooth which is the most obvious cause and leaving it a few days to see if that settles problems is very sensible.

@Lollygaggle thank you so much. I just have one more question. I had the first stage of a root canal 2 weeks ago on a molar on the other side of my mouth( as I could not get a full appointment until July) the tooth is still very sore to bite down on and throbs most of the day. Is this normal?
