This is a bit of an odd one, and I started a thread about it a while back but the problem was never resolved.
We're renovating an inherited house atm and not living there, so pay periodic visits while work is ongoing (we’re able to sleep there although it’s not fully finished). At different times while there I’ve experienced really horrible symptoms of painful, swollen, itching, reddened skin on my face and neck - basically as though something has caused it to blow up in some kind of reaction. It’s severe enough to the point of almost wanting to scratch my face off with the itching and burning. Usually I wake up in the morning and immediately realise my face has swelled up in the night as it feels so instantly painful (and looks horrendous). Even anti-histamines don’t seem to have much effect in calming it down.
I’ve never had a problem with hives or urticaria-type symptoms in my life till this, and tbh it’s taken me ages to connect the onset of the symptoms with the building work, but the last few episodes of it have coincided with wood-sanding and, looking back, it always seems to have been linked to when work has been happening and dust/sawdust has been especially present, so I think this has finally narrowed it down for me. Though it doesn’t happen every time we're there, it’s now happened at least 5 or 6 times, and I’ve never, ever experienced it anywhere else.
Has anyone else ever had this? I'm feeling pretty desperate because we’re thinking of potentially moving to this house and I’m worried I might actually be allergic to it….
