Diverticulitis flare up

If you have this would you mind telling me your symptoms please?

I am awaiting a referral to gastro after a nasty bout of abdominal pain last month. Pain was my only symptom but my bloods showed markers for infection so was put on ABs.

The pain settled a bit but hasn’t completely gone away. Sometimes high up under my ribs, sometimes right down near left groin.

I had lots of bloods and a bowel and ovarian cancer test to rule other stuff out and these were fine. Just elevated infection markers but follow up tests showed this reduced after AB

from my reading it sounds like a Diverticulitis flare up which is what doctor thought it was. I’m only surprised it’s gone on so long! 5 weeks off and on!

Any advice?

Hi there,

When I get a flare-up it's generally in my left side, low down but higher than my hip bone. It can be painful enough to wake me at night, which is generally when I start to pay attention to it. My GP gives me an antibiotic and it settles down again. I tend to eat soft-ish food for a few days.

I've been lucky it hasn't been any worse than that for me yet.

Thankyou. How were you diagnosed please?

I was diagnosed by a colonoscopy following several bouts of pain. I've had two admissions to hospital with it, one led to a bowel perforation. That one took me a couple of months to get over!
However, day to day I'm fine. Avoid constipation! If I start to get pain in my lower left side I eat a very bland, white diet and try not to move too much. I get antibiotics if it doesn't clear quickly.
There's a good uk Facebook group that has plenty of information....but it is a bit scary as some people really have it badly.

Thank you. I’ve had this before in the past and it went away. They did a sigmoidoscopy at that time and didn’t find anything which is odd. However I’ve since read that it’s a colonoscopy that’s needed. Not looking forward to that.

I’ll look for the FB group.

Hiya also a sufferer.
Usually starts with pain in the middle of my tummy. Get very windy. Then the pain migrates to my lower left side, sometimes if it's a proper flare will feel fluey with chills and fever but other times if just inflammation will get better in a day or two

My pain is always lower left belly. I follow a low residue diet to keep pain and flare ups at bay, it's very restrictive but works. Avoid getting constipation. I took two nurofen + Thursday which always leads to constipation and a flare up, but my headache was so bad paracetamol didn't touch it, so now on a liquid only diet until it settles. Hot water bottle on the pain definitely helps relieve the pain.

Hi there I was diagnosed with a CT scan scan. I thought I had a UTI. GP sent me to hospital as he thought I had kidney stones. There was blood in my urine when GP dipped it (though not visibly). Eventually I had CT scan and they saw diverticulitis. That was about five years ago. It's fine most of the time and I've not had to avoid any foods. I hope yours can be sorted out and fixed quickly.

Hi I think I’m having a flare up of diverticulitis aswell
I feel absolutely horrible.. the passing wind is horrendous .. pain in the middle like heartburn between ribs then travels to the left above groin.. I had a ct scan in January to rule our cancers etc and my scan showed internal piles and mild diverticulitis

I am currently having a flare up and I am dying
