Sorry another chicken pocks question, would it be possible for it to start on a childs wrist?

DD has got just one spot. I havecome across chicken pocks (pox?) before and it looks like it is but would it start on the wrist? I've googled it and everything I found says it starts behind the ears or on the trunk. She has been in contact with it possibly. Also I am a bit worried as she has a medical condition so if she is fighting an infection needs extra treatment. But I am probably panicking over nothing as she doesn't seem unwell! What do you think?

DD's first spot was on her eye. I thought it was a stye as she had no others at first. If she seems well I wouldn't worry too much just yet. If she develops more spots or starts feeling ill then go to your GP.

Just wait and see - and if you're worried about infecting others stay in this weekend.

Does she need her extra treatment as an emrgency? Will it be available over the weekend?

Chicken pox spots are pink with a watery bit in the middle so it could be. In my expereince the other spots come within hours so you should know by tonight.

Good luck

I think DDs first spot was on her foot.

used2bthin · 05/04/2008 12:56

Yes it is pink with a raised sort of white head thing in the middle, I just can't think what it could be if not. Do they usually all come at once or over a few days? Her extra treatment means just doubling her steroids so I can do it at home I just want to make sure I do it if she has got it iyswim. If she gets ill with it we will get in touch with hospital butam I right in thinking she would be over the illness bit if she has got the spot/s?

Both mine were a bit poorly the first couple of days when the spots came out but my mindee at the time who also had it was fine.

MorocconOil · 05/04/2008 13:01

It really depends. Sometimes they just come up all over the place straightaway, and other times gradually. I've known children only get one or two spots throughout the illness.

Have you got a walk-in centre nearby?

A nurse could probably say whether it's a chicken pox spot, or not.

dustystar · 05/04/2008 13:01

dd got it first and I sent her to preschool thinking the spot was a stye, they called me an hour later to say that spots had come up on her arm. By the time I had got back there to cllect her (1/2 an hour later) they had spread to her body too. Then she seemed to get more and more over the next 3 days. Ds woke up covered.

used2bthin · 05/04/2008 13:02

Oh ok thanks, she hasn't seemed ill but has been up in the night a lot. Am torn between hoping it is so she's had it and hoping its not because it worries me (and we'll have to stay in!)

Not sure about walk in centre I could ring out of hours since she is a bit more vulnerable than most but still would feel a bit over the top if she's not ill. She's asleep now but I'll check her when she gets up again. Anything else that would cause a spot like that? Although it does look exactly like the pictures in the symptoms pages I found when I googled it!

was it cp used2b...?

Just searched mn as ds has just gone down for a nap and has about 12ish "spots" Red circular with a whiteish head ontop...

He saw his gp this morning as he has been a nightmare the last few weeks and the last 24 hrs have seen him be a bit under the weather..gp said all seemed fine but gave me calpol as his glands were up.

Anyway noticed as I put him down for his nap that he's got a few spots. One initially I pointed out to his gp on his lip...now more onhis back/arm/pelvis...

Booked in later onto see gp...
