Cellulitis or gout?

This has been going on now for 3 weeks. Two doctors have diagnosed cellulitis and a nurse practitioner suggested gout.

So far I've had two 5 day courses of antibiotics, and I've just started taking Montmorency cherry capsules.

Has anyone else had this go on for so long, and if so, how long did it take to fully resolve?

Gout can generally be diagnosed with a blood test. I’d be going back to the GP and asking them to check.

@Helloworld56 iv had gout in my toe and it took ages to go away even after been prescribed medication for it. Surely they can distinguish between the two, what does it look like? I would be worried about if it is cellulitis that it's hanging around for so long, surely they can test it?

*Also very important for diagnostic reasons not to change your diet until after you have received the results. A lot of people will pop in and discuss oxalates and leafy greens, etc: Just hold back until you know what you’re dealing with.

@Fraaahncesand @Daniki Yes, I'll go back and have it tested if it doesn't get better soon. I've read that the two conditions can look very similar. The second doctor I saw said it couldn't be gout, but now I'm wondering.

Gouty gal here. Excruciating pain on and to the side of big toe where a bunion would be. Lasted about 4 weeks. Blood test for uric acid diagnosed it. Colchisine was prescribed, it's not an antibiotic. Good luck.

I've had cellulitis a few times and almost always need IV antibiotics as the tablet form doesn't seem to flush it out
