Pennecillin rash?

My DS age 5 is a constant sufferer of tonsilitus. (Just ignore my awful spelling throughout this!) Had pennecillin lots of times. A few days ago he came out in a rash all over his arms, back neck and face, just after being prescribed penecillin for his tonsils. Rash had gone by morning, but now everytime he gets hot the rash appears again. What on earth is it? My DD aged 2 has just got over hand foot and mouth but his rash is nothing like her spots. Can pennecillin cause a rash? Really dont want to drag him back to docs again, feels like we're there every other day at minute!

I would say it is probably a viral or heat rash (especially with it reappearing on heat).

If he has had penicillin many times without incident it probably isn't that.

However I believe that allergy can develop over time as you senesitize yourself to teh allergen. Latex can certainly be like this. I am not sure about the mechanics of penicillin allergy though.

it sounds like an allergy to me - see your doctor.
Developing an allergy to penicillin is very common - I became allergic in my 20s and had had penicillin loads of times before

I developed an allergy to penicillin in my teens despite taking it as a child.
I got a terrible rash all over my body, went back to the GP who said it was an allergy and to stop taking them, after a couple of days the skin began to peel off my fingers and toes which the GP predicted!
I'd take him back if I was you.

I think that penicillin can cause a rash when its taken when someone has glandular fever. Also if its a strep infection he has i suppose one possibility is scarlet fever? Only guessing though as am not medical person!
