Struggle to poo for past ten years. The only way I can overcome is trying to drink nearly three litres of water and loads of pears and seeds and whole meal bread etc etc If I do this I am fine but I don't see other people having to make such an effort. If there is a day when I only drink 1.5 litres and only have one pear I'm straining! Feel fine otherwise. Anyone else like this? Oh I often have a few tea spoons of calfig of syrup to make sure I'm getting fibre in. It's exhausting remembering to do all this. Anyone else have this issue??

I have this issue due to prolapse etc. I've taken a daily sachet of cosmocol daily. Plus using techniques like putting my feet on a low stool. I ear flaxseed daily.

I was told that the kiwi fruit have something in them (an enzyme?) that helps. I have only tried the skin once, and it was like coir matting, as expected.

I did try having one every morning for quite a long time, and it really did work. They were better than using something like movicol, because they don't, usually, give you diarrhoea if you have a lot.

The problem with them was that I tend to have allergies relating to fruit so I wasn't sure of them and some of them were not properly ripe and very acid. This put me off them. They will ripen if you keep them though.

I have tried making them into a smoothie with blueberries and bananas to try and temper them, and drink it with a straw.

I have a friend who swears by kiwi fruits + magnesium glycinate.

I should try again. <sigh>

Linseeds soaked in water overnight are good, start with a tablespoon and work up to two. Not a very pleasant start to the day but they are really easy to take away on holiday if you know you are going to be eating baguettes and cheese for a fortnight and getting bunged up.

It's my understanding that kiwis are so effective in the treatment of constipation because they contain both soluble and insoluble fibre and also the enzyme actinidin. I know a study posted above found gold kiwis to be effective, but several studies found that gold kiwis are less effective than green ones as they do not have the same concentration of the enzyme.

I am the same ( menopausal) and it's exhausting trying to keep up a regime. I cannot let stools get hard due to a really debilitating condition so it's a constant round of chia seeds, pears , apples, lactulose, docusate, dried apricots, tins of prunes just to make sure I pass a soft poo daily. I sometimes think it would be nice to just eat what I want for a day rather than things I don't particularly want to eat.
