Whooping Cough

Help, Poor ds has been suffering for about 3 weeks with awful cough, been back and forwards to docs, and finally it has been suggested that he has whooping cough. Been on line and read the symptoms and that is exactly what he's got.

Anyone had children with this, what can they recommend to alleviate the coughing, shortness of breath. (really horrendous and freightening for all of us) apparently it can go on for 6 to 8 weeks!!

He's only just got over a really bad case of chicken pox!!

Any advise gratefully received!!

ds2 suffered this many times! Turns out he has infection induced asthma. Whenever he gets slight cold/bugs he starts - unable to catch breath, severe cough, etc. He's just finished steroids which worked wonders! Now on inhaler for 6 weeks and will see from there ...

Dd3 had whooping cough when she was a few weeks old, made her throw up a lot and she lost a lot of weight. Very, very scarey, we just had to sit it out, there didn't seem to be anything that made it easier for her. The really bad cough wore off after about 6 weeks but she continued to have a bit of a cough for the rest of the winter so I suppose about 4/5 months. This winter I was worried the cough would come back but she's been fine so far, so no long term effects. Hopefully not much longer and your ds will start feeling better!

I've been burning rosemary, eucalyptus and thyme oil all day yesterday and in the bedroom and it really seems to have helped.

Now dd has got it, sick as a dog, poor thing. Might look at the homeopathic route, thanks.

Hi Franniban, I had whooping cough last year. Have you looked at this site (www.whoopingcough.net) sorry can't do the link-thing. I found this really helpful, hope your DS and DD feel better soon.
