Been ill for a month with what has been one of the worst cold+ cough I’ve had in decades.

GP a week ago said probably virus that will go away.

2 days ago started getting sharp stabbing pain around heart area. Doesn’t go with painkillers. Pain is less when standing up or leaning forward. Bloating like never before. Super tired and dizzy when walk.

worried if call gp again will be seen as time waster. Husband says I should go to A&E but that feels like overkill?

i feel
so rough, I feel like what was viral is now bacterial (foul tasting phlegm now), but worried I’ll just be told it’s still viral and be labelled drama Queen.

anybody had this before? Last time I had antibiotics was probably when I gave birth 15 years ago!!

Hi, I’m a nurse. You should go to a and e with any sort or chest pain and especially if you’re unwell too.

wickerpram · 21/05/2024 19:26

Go to A&E tonight

Wiunthoopered · 21/05/2024 19:26

Yes go to A & E.

AliceCallous · 21/05/2024 19:29

Any algorithm is going to send you to A&E with chest pains.

Ok, it's probably not anything life threatening, but it does sound like you need some swift treatment. So I'd pack a book and get down there.

gamerchick · 21/05/2024 19:30

You've probably pulled something with coughing but you know you need to go and get checked out anyway. It'll play on your mind and end up scaring you.

Okayornot · 21/05/2024 19:33

Pericarditis I reckon. A&E will rule out anything nastier and if it is pericarditis can decide if antibiotics and better pain killers are needed. Hope you feel better soon.

SanctusInDistress · 21/05/2024 19:59

Thanks all. I called 111 who said they’d call an ambulance. I said please don’t I don’t want my son to be alarmed, so I’m making my way by taxi to the urgent care centre.

Take care, hope they can make you feel better soon and you're not waiting too long

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 21/05/2024 20:05

Hi OP

FYI, I'm not medically qualified

I feel its not your heart but a sprain or a non-heart related pain

However, I strongly recommend you at the very least go to A&E. The ambulance is scary but they will give you an ECG there at home and should get a better idea - so go for that as 111 suggested/Ambulance

Then, please update us when you can - hopefully tonight

Good luck

Anewuser · 21/05/2024 20:05

You’re making the right call.

Hopefully, it’s a chest infection and antibiotics will clear it up.

Get well soon.

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 21/05/2024 20:06

Btw - tell your "son" what is happening before ambulance arrives - tell him its precautionary and they should sort you our quick

SanctusInDistress · 22/05/2024 04:16

Update. Likely muscle sprain from all the coughing.

now I feel a bit silly but at least it’s m not worried it’s something else.

nhs fantastic. Long wait (7 hours), but peace of mind- priceless.

Hi
Many thanks just as I thought, ie "not heart related."

I said "sprain" because I often get pains there after doing some heavier lifting or cleaning our wooden floors.

Thank you for sharing

That's good, don't feel silly chest pain should always be checked out you did the right thing x

Anewuser · 22/05/2024 17:35

You have nothing to feel silly about, better safe than sorry.

Cranarc · 22/05/2024 19:05

Keep an eye on your temperature. Foul tasting phlegm is not good. I had symptoms similar but also got a high temperature (along with racing heart, fatigue, cough, rattly lungs) and ended up hospitalised with pneumonia. I hope you didn't major on the chest pain so much that you did not say much about other symptoms, including how long this has been going on.

Hope you feel better soon.
