What is this on my back?

Hi everyone,

I have a doctors appointment booked for a raised pinkish bump that’s appeared on my back, it’s around 1.5-2cm.

I would be very grateful for honest opinions so I kind of know what to expect at the docs, does this look like melanoma?

thank you Mumsnet

I said to my consultant that I thought mine looked like an amelanotic melanoma but he said in his opinion it didn't when he looked at it. He didn't even offer to remove mine in the first instance so I'm guessing he was very sure. He only offered to do it to ease my anxiety. I imagine if I wasn't paying he wouldn't be going down that road. What you've got to remember is amelanotic melanoma is very rare. He didn't know what it was though really, I think he thought it's some kind of inflammation. Fingers crossed it is!

Hi, do you have any update, keeping my fingers crossed for you that it’s nothing.

whilst I’ve been waiting to hear back from my doctor I’ve been using an app called SkinVision to check my spot, I paid but I just wanted peace of mind. However it’s done the opposite ahaha

the first result said my spot is low risk of skin cancer, however I thought I’d try another pic of the same spot and the result came back high risk. So I don’t know how accurate these skin cancer checking apps are as I’ve got 2 different results for the same spot.

Hi op, I used that app before I saw the consultant and it came back as low risk too. Mine was actually viewed by the team there as I assume no pictures matched 🙈. However I'm not one for "watch and wait" so that's why I preferred to get it off. Mine looks different in different lights, some lights it's almost flesh coloured and sometimes it's quite pinky/red. My dermatologist did ask me if I'd been fiddling with it (as of course I had been 😂).

No news yet. Having my stitches out on Wednesday so I'm hoping I don't have to wait too much longer.

Just a quick update from me op. I've not had a results call yet but I've been told by doctors reception that the gp told them to let me know there's no notable concerns in the histology. Got a tel call next week to discuss once gp has spoken to consultant so it's probably something but nothing worrying. I'll let you know what they say.

Thank you so much for keeping me informed. I’m so glad there was no concerns in the histology. Will keep fingers crossed it’s nothing too concerning. I have appointment about mine on Tuesday. Will keep you informed also

thanks again and take care of yourself

I spoke to my dermatologist today and apparently it's some kind of eczema! Although the histology report suggests they don't really know what it is but it's not anything malignant or concerning so that's the main thing.

Good luck for your appointment op

I found your post when I searched for something similar to what I have on my back. Mine is smaller but looks very much like yours. I’m going for dermatoscopy on tuesday. Did you find out what it is?

Hi, it’s just a benign skin growth, caused by sun exposure, it eventually flaked off on its own
