Does this look like shingles?

I’ve had this discomfort since Friday evening like a prickling, electric shock type pain and this rash has now come up. I’m wondering if it’s shingles, especially as I’ve been a bit run down recently with a chest infection. Also had a headache all weekend that I can’t shift.

Yes, I have it at the moment. Just like that.

Piggywaspushed · 20/05/2024 16:48

Is it just on one side?

Oh dear, definitely shingles then. Sorry.

It sounds like and looks like shingles. When I got it I thought I had a load of bug bites-then realised it was winter so got it checked. See your go and get the anti virals straightaway-the earlier you take them, the milder the neuropathy.

endofthelinefinally · 20/05/2024 18:04

Yes. Can you speak to a GP/111 and get a Px for antivirals?

Piggywaspushed · 20/05/2024 18:22

I didn't get anti virals.

Shiveringinthecountry · 20/05/2024 19:29

I got anti-virals because I got to the GP quickly and it didn't develop badly. Try to speak to GP tomorrow, OP, or visit walk-in clinic, because time counts with shingles.

Piggywaspushed · 20/05/2024 19:33

I suspect it depends on GP. I was told I didn't need them because I'm low risk. But do ask, OP!

My worst symptoms were all before the rash.

LagoonaBalloon · 20/05/2024 20:59

If the rash is on one side in a line I would say it's definitely shingles. I had them last year. Went to the doctor straight away and got antivirals which made a big difference. For me the worst symptoms were before the rash started. I actually recognised the nerve pain type feeling as I'd had them when I was a kid. Hope you feel better soon.

Looks def like shingles, I had it a few weeks ago. Had headache at the weekend ans felt under the weather. Prickling, tingling sensations in my side followed by itchy painful rash. GP surgery was great and got me in to see doc same.day.
Started taking anti virals that night and they absolutely stopped the shingles in its tracks

Yourinmyspot · 20/05/2024 22:07

Thanks everyone, will contact the GP’s tomorrow.

The GP might recommend you dab the rash with calamine lotion. If so, keep it in the fridge to maximise the benefit. Fingers crossed that you quickly recover.

I’ve got a rash on the back of my neck now too. Though it feels different and is more itchy.

My neck looks like this now, I don’t know if you can get it in two different places at the same time.

Have you been to GP??

Stentor7 · 22/05/2024 16:24

My shingles started on my right shoulder blade, travelled to my neck, & then the right side of my face.

You need to see a Dr, or send the photos of your rash. They usually get you in as an emergency for shingles, as the antivirals need to be started/ taken as soon as possible.

Yourinmyspot · 22/05/2024 16:53

I went to my GP yesterday morning before the second rash on my neck had really appeared but said the initial one is shingles and gave me aciclovir.

I'd ring the GP in the morning and explain. Ask whether somebody could ring you to let you know whether this new rash is consistent with the shingles diagnosis.

Thanks, I’ve got my regular appointment with the nurse on Friday so will ask then.
