I've only been on this a month and have gained over half a stone 😳. It's for arrhythmia rather than blood pressure. Anyone else had this?

It's not one of the listed side effects and seems quite a lot to gain in that amount of time. Have you stopped a regular exercise routine or taken up donuts op? If not I'd go have a chat with your local pharmacist or GP... Everyone is different and that way you'll put your mind at rest.

No change in diet or exercise. Very strange, I've been tracking calories and had expected to be losing.

Beta blockers can cause weight gain especially on tummy.

Pigcasso · 25/02/2025 12:44

Been on it years, no weight gain

CherryRipe1 · 25/02/2025 13:02

If it helps, I'm on propranolol and have to really watch what I eat or else I balloon. I think weight gain is a side effect of beta blockers. I'm sure I read Bowie was on them for his heart issues and renamed himself Fat white Duke as his skinny frame rounded off a bit.

Yes, I’ve been taking them for a month. Definitely feel bigger. I don’t weigh myself though.

CaptainBeanThief · 26/02/2025 14:59

I've been on it years, for atrial fibrillation ( they've only diagnosed the AF but they they knew something was wrong and I'm only 31)
I've put on a significant amount of weight - but I'm on a lot of medication. I've stopped taking one of my medications and I've lost of a bit of weight
It's not so much of the medication "putting the weight on you" it's more of "increase of appetite leading to overeating thus weight gain" or " fluid retention" etc.
I'm on 7.5mg daily.
It really does help but it does have unpleasant side effects but better that having a blood clot forming and dying.

@CaptainBeanThief my appetite has shrunk,I've tried intermittent fasting etc and nothing has helped. I think I'm taking fewer steps because I feel so tired so it's a bit of a vicious circle. I'm also on loads of meds for AF.
