My dentist recommended using Curasept when I had it, along with some hefty cleaning by the hygienist.

SherlockHomies · 17/05/2024 12:44

Corsodyl toothpaste and mouthwash.

GentleSloth · 17/05/2024 13:30

@SherlockHomies i don’t think you can use corsodyl for more than 3 days at a time can you?

SherlockHomies · 17/05/2024 15:41

@GentleSloth yes, they do a Daily Mouthwash range.

GentleSloth · 17/05/2024 16:23

@SherlockHomies oh perfect - thank you!

Google the modified bass technique for toothbrushing. Do that twice daily.
Google TePe cleaning. Do this daily.

Don't rinse out after brushing just spit the excess toothpaste.

minthybobs · 17/05/2024 19:04

Mine were worse than that. I fixed them in 2 weeks.

  1. I switched to a soft manual toothbrush temporarily - you can buy soft ones for gums
  2. I started using crest gum detox and gum repair - it’s specifically to reduce bacteria in gums and below the gum line
  3. Used inter dental brushes twice a day
  4. Rinsed mouth with salt water three times a day. This really helps. Corsodyl made my mouth feel awfully dry and gross.

They were swollen and bleeding and 2 weeks of this and they’re now a lovely light pink colour.

Suggest hygienist appointment too!

Pinkypinkyplonk · 17/05/2024 19:09

They look ok to me! Are they really sore?

GentleSloth · 17/05/2024 19:15

Can you see a hygienist?

Imatorturedpoet · 17/05/2024 19:28

I was at the hygienist last week, my gums aren't great. She recommended using the biggest interdental brush I could. At first they bled a lot each time, but after a couple of days this stopped. She told me doing this would solve the problem 🤞

sunflowrsngunpowdr · 17/05/2024 19:36

Have you ever tried oil pulling? I use coconut oil and have noticed a marked improvement in overall gum health.

GentleSloth · 17/05/2024 19:44

@LIZS i saw one 3 months ago, due another appointment in June

@sunflowrsngunpowdr ooo how does this work?

OP posts:
bfsham · 17/05/2024 20:14

No it doesn't.
Stick to evidence-based dentistry OP as you've been advised upthread.
Use peroxyl mouthwash short term between your twice daily toothbrushing and once daily TePe 'ing.

If you feel if may be an SLS sensitivity rather than plaque induced gingivitis ( the usual variety) then consider changing your toothpaste brand to an SLS free one.

bfsham · 17/05/2024 20:16

It's not possible to tell from your picture what's going on without probing your gums with the relevant tool.

CurlsandCurves · 17/05/2024 20:19

Another little tip to do just short term till it calms down.

Dip your inter dental brush/Teepee in Corsodyl. Helps get the Corsodyl get right in where it’s needed.

GentleSloth · 17/05/2024 21:13

@CurlsandCurves this sounds like a great idea!

Gargle with warm (not hot) salt water every day. Do not swallow. Really swish it all around your mouth and between your teeth.

CherryBlossom321 · 17/05/2024 21:24

Gengigel is miracle worker, though obviously I second the suggestions of regular hygienist deep cleans and interdental brushes.

I second this. I used sed genigel gel and mouthwash along with my usual corsodul toohpaste, it really helped. Forgot to keep it going and gums are bleeding again and i got a telling off from the dentist! I've just bought some more.

jolenethea · 17/05/2024 22:19

Interdental brushing daily (they'll bleed a bit at first but it'll calm down) and gengigel from Amazon or a chemist

There's another thread at the moment about the benefits of probiotics for sore gums.
