Root Canal

Hi - had the first stage of a root canal two days ago. It’s still sensitive to bite down on and the pain is noticeable, although a lot better than prior to the treatment.

is this a sign that it’s failing? Or is this normal?

Sounds normal to me - I’ve had a few

Sounds normal. Your gum around the nerve will be inflamed after having the dentist dig about in there. I had one last week and my gum took a few days to settle down.

@gingeristhenewblack43 @SmugglersHaunt thank you both for replying - I can’t work out if it’s the tooth aching or the gum. How long did it take to go down?

Normal. Mine continued to be very sensitive for weeks if not months. Still a successful root canal though.

@GoodVibesHere sorry I am paranoid - I’d probably give it a 4 or 5/10 in terms of pain - noticeable but not debilitating would you say that’s normal?

Well I would say that it sounds similar to the experiences I've had. I've had two root canals and both were achy and sore. One in particular (an upper tooth) was really quite sore for some time, I remember thinking surely it has failed because how can I be feeling this aching pain if there is no root? But it did eventually settle down and has been fine for 20 years now. When I had the second root canal, I had similar pain but I was more relaxed as I'd been through it before.

I still don't 'get' how there is pain when it's been root canal filled, but that was my experience.

@GoodVibesHere thank you for sharing your experience it makes me feel better! Mine is an upper molar so wonder if they struggle with the root canals a bit more. I also don’t understand how they can ache after everything has been removed/filled😂
