Swollen Bile Duct

5 replies

I came into A&E with sever pain in my upper right abdomen just below my rib cage, being sick and nearly passing out

We ruled out the appendix and my gallbladder looks fine with no stones but they found that my bile duct is almost twice the size at 13mm, they've done and mri and there's no stones but my bile duct is dilated. I'm not hearing from the doctors till the morning unfortunately but I'm wondering if anyone else has had this before

I'm getting myself worked up thinking what it could be. It gets triggered everytime I eat food and that could be any food

I had this and it was because I had a gallstone get stuck in the bile duct. It worked its way free on its own but left the duct swollen for a while. I’ve since had my gallbladder out and it’s all been fine. Hope you get answers soon OP.

Thank you for your reply, I'm a bit worried as the pain isn't going. It's being set off everytime I eat

@AC20218 how are you now?

I had a gall stone stuck in my bile duct and was very ill, felt like I was dying. My skin turned yellow, my urine was very dark and I had a massive infection. Was in hospital on IV antibiotics for 11 days and needed an operation to remove both the stone and my gallbladder.
But that was extreme and sometimes it can dislodge itself.
Hope you feel better soon 💐
