The dreaded pox is going round DD1's preschool so she's bound to get it soon, so what do I do? Do I need to take her to the doctor or just ride it out with calpol?

No need for drs unless pox spots look infected or sore.

Calpol and cool baths and lots of home based activities.

And when can we go out again, is it once all the spots have scabbed over?

calpol, calamine lotion and bicarb of soda in her bath. Fingers crossed that if she gets it she's not too bad. When my DD had cpox she was great - apart from the horrible spots she seemed pretty OK

Thanks you two, I shall stock up on provisions and wait for the spots............

There is slightly conflicting advice about infectious period, erring on safe side would be when all spots are scabbed yes. nhs site reckons this usually takes about a week from first blister.

DD2 has chicken pox at the moment. I am using priton to stop the itching and also Eurax (sp) lotion. The first spots came out on Monday and it looks like some more are coming out today!!! Just waiting for dd1 to get it now!!

WE are staying in until the spots have scabbed.

my ds has chicken pox bought camomile and zivnco spray

spots take up to 7 days to stop coming out the a week to scab but can stop after 3 days

luckily my ds hasnt got it too bad and hasnt affected him much just keep cool at night as to not sweat and cause itching

phone docs to inform dd has it so they can put on her notes but dont take up as could infect prenant people or babies in wating room or elderly

if ill with it ask for doc to come out

My DS has just got chickenpox too. This is probably a silly question but can we leave the house? We were going to go to a baby group which we're obviously not going to go to, but we also really need to get him some new shoes - should we go out for that or wait unside until he's scabbed over?

bubblagirl · 03/04/2008 14:31

no you have to wait until scabbed over as it can be passed on by sneezing or anyhing and really not worth the risk to any pregnant women or small babies

just managed to leave the house myself after a week as ds never got to many spots so we were lucky
