Lips swelling up

When I was away last week, about an hour after I woke up my lips started to swell up for no reason. My mum who was sitting opposite was the first to notice it and said they were really swollen. They went down slowly over I guess the next few hours, but then it happened again the next day. I had forgotten about it, but they have just started to swell up again now - is there any reason they would? Seems very random. It's not after eating or drinking, or wearing any make up etc.

Toothpaste, mouthwash??

Most DEFINATLY sounds like an allergy. I had ranndom swelling of the eyelid for about 2 years. Just one eyelid, on waking, would be really swolen - not painful, just huge. It would dissapear after a couple of hours. After no luck with an eye consultant I was referred to an allergy consultant who reckoned it was an allergy to an 'unknown substance'. He said it could be ANYTHING, but something I probably touched, then when I touched my eye as I woke up it reacted and caused the swelling. We never tracked down the allergen, tho it stopped whn I moved house!

Worth checking out with a dr tho cos if the allergen is common and you accidentally ingested some it could be dangerous? (I'm sur the experts on the allergy threads can correct me if I'm wrong!)

I've had this before, but I put it down to coming out of the cold air. Have you been outside? How swollen are they?

Or... coupld your dp/dh be transfering an allergen to you? Maybe it's something he ate or his toothpaste or something.

I had this a couple of years ago I never found out what caused it, it was in the summer and I thought I may have been bitten by something because I hadn't eaten, used or drank anything new.

Wow, lot of replies. Same toothpaste, I guess DH has a new aftershave and I am using a new shampooo, that might cause it. Not sure why they have gone up now though, maybe this time it was just random. I'll try and track down what's causing it - thankyou!

BET it's the aftershave.

this happened to my exp while we were on holiday - first one lip, and then the other one, in succession.

they both just went down and we didn't know what on earth could have caused it
