Please anyone help!! I’m honestly at my wits end with this.
So basically I’ve had GH for coming up to 3 years (my first year I was misdiagnosed) so I’ve been dealing with it properly for nearly 2 years. After back to back outbreaks I persuaded the doctor to put me on antivirals for suppression in December 22. At first it was great at I didn’t have any outbreaks until April 23 and they were back so I went back to the doctors and they put me on valtrax of which I have been on every since. I seemed to be doing ok till the beginning of this year and then I got an outbreak in Jan and then March and now I’m on my worst outbreak yet!!! I don’t know where to turn. I take lots of supplements too like zinc, vitamin d, lysine. I’ve just ordered some bee propolis as I’ve heard this can help but I’m literally at my wits end. I’ve heard that it’s meant to get better over time but mine doesn’t seem to be doing that. I know I’m feeling run down and stressed at the minute as im going through a long and drawn out divorce and it's taken it out of me but this is also causing me so much stress!! I just cant see the light at the end of the tunnel at the minute.
Any advice welcome. Thank you

No advice but I feel your pain. GH is the total worst - I think stress makes it worse.

Thank you and you’re not wrong there. I had kind of got my head round it but everytime I get an outbreak it pulls me back down.

Have you tried Lomaherpan cream from the Herpes Virus Association? It's absolutely fucking magic. Honest.

Callie001 · 06/05/2024 21:29

Yes I have some of that and at the first tingle I put some on. It doesn’t prevent it but I do think it makes it less of an outbreak. I just wish I was one of the people who take daily antivirals and don’t get another outbreak.

I don't have GH but I was suffering constant outbreaks of cold sores. My Dr said I should try arginine so am taking a low/medium dose every day, along with lysine. It has definitely reduced the outbreaks. Could be worth a try

Do you carry on using it throughout the outbreak? I was advised to use it 3 x daily for at least 5 days and rub it in really well each time (that bit is key).

I find that very odd as arginine thought to aggravate the replication of the herpes virus - it does the opposite of lysine (good for suppression).

OP are you eating anything regularly that has high levels of arginine? For example I can't have some protein shakes as they contain high levels of arginine and I struggle with frequent outbreaks when I drink them regularly.

Other things I've tried that have helped with outbreaks are olive leaf extract, oregano oil topically and zinc cream.

Apparently certain mushroom blends are good for immunity generally - have you tried something like that?

I really feel for you, there is such a mental stigma attached to it and the frequent outbreaks really mess with your mental health xx

I’ll give anything a try at the minute. Thank you

Yes I use it several times a day but perhaps not for 5 days. I tend to alternate with aloe Vera gel too.

I think I’m going to start a food diary and see if there’s some sort of pattern but I do feel my stress levels aren’t helping. It has certainly got to me mentally over the last couple of months.

I suffered really badly with cold sores for a couple of years and in the end I got a prophylactic prescription for acyclovir - and intense courses during an outbreak. Assume similar could be done for GH? I now order via Superdrug whenever I have an outbreak.

Omega 3 and Zinc helps

Thank you to everyone for your suggestions. I’ve been to see the doctor today and she was honestly the most helpful doctor I’ve seen since I was diagnosed. She literally bent over backwards for me and has given me a bit of hope 🤞🏻
