For about a week I have had a head cold. It is not getting any better. I have a dull headache that is constant. My eyes ache, I have a bad cough and a sore throat. I also ache. The problem is that my symptoms are worse when I lie down. I do not cough so much during the day but when I go to bed the cough ing starts and just does not stop and sometimes I am coughing up mucus.

I am sucking strepsills but they are only a short term fix. My sore throat keeps coming back. I m lso taking headache tablets for the dull headache but they are no help either as it keeps coming back.

I just cannot go on like this. I have also been feeling a bit feverish but I cannot take my temperature as I do not have a themometer.

I never get chesty colds. Whenever I do get a cold it is always in the head. Its no use going to the doctor because there is nothing they can do. I am also drinking lemsip but thats no use either

I had this trouble with the cough being worse at night, so I was advised to use Night Nurse and it worked.

There is a horrible virus doing the rounds at the moment. My ds has been streaming, coughing and generally grotty for about 10 days.

All I can suggest is fluids, paracetamol, keeping warm, olbas oil on your pillowcase at night, sleep slightly propped up to lessen the cough. It's miserable.

ive never taken Night Nurse. As a chold growing up, my mum used to swear by Benylin and back in the day it was always the drowsy kind. Now you can get non drowsy. Benylin used to work well and you used to use the one for chesty cough one or the other one whichever suited your condition.

So I have no idea how Night Nurse compres to Benylin. I think the problem with me is that my cold started about a week ago. I keep pushing myself despite my cold because I think oh I am not that bad I can carry on and so I go to work, or work from home and do all the things I wokuld normally do. Then because my cold is not completely gone, I am going out especially in the rain and making it worse by thinking I need fresh air and that will be good for me but in fact its making my cold worse and now I feel much worse. This is how a common cold turns into the flu. I need to stay at home and rest and wait until I am 100% better and then get back to my normal routine etc not when I am only 50% better so really I only have myself to blame

Ah Benylin. Drowsy. The medicine of God's. Used to take a swig. Sleep for 12 hours and wake up well...... such a shame they stopped it.

They have not stopped it, you can stilll get it but you now have the option of non drowsy if you prefer
