What Is Wrong With Me? Gynae or Gastro?

Please advise me what might be wrong with me (I know strangers online can only help so much, but honestly, I’m fed up and confused so all ears).

A couple of weeks ago I went into hospital with suspected biliary colic. Terrible upper abdominal pain. Scan showed no concerns with gallbladder so that was that. No ongoing advice or appointments so I guess they were content that I’m okay. They did give me some Omeprazole. I took some today after quite bad pain after dinner, however I’m very uncomfortable again so not sure they worked.

Since this happened, I’ve had almost constant lower abdominal pain over the last 2 weeks which feels like period pain. I also get occasional pain higher up in my abdomen when I eat or drink anything. Not always, but sometimes. I also quite often experience bloating and burping after eating.

I’ve never had any gastro issues so this is all new. I’m 41 so could it be perimenopause which I hear can mess with indigestion etc.

I can’t work out if this period pain could actually be a gastro issue, or whether it’s totally separate to the bloating and burping, but does indigestion pain go that low down? Sometimes I feel the pain in my back too.

I think I need to go back to the GP but I can’t work out if this is a gynae issue with the cramping, or an indigestion issue. It’s so difficult getting an appointment I can’t imagine I’ll get one quickly so any advice or insight is welcome!

GP thinks IBS.

Would IBS cause this constant period pain cramping? It feels just like period pain and ranges from mild to significantly painful.

The cramping is the most relentless symptom and is pretty much all day, every day, The nausea and bloating comes and goes but is pretty much daily. The nausea is sometimes multiple times a day. Bowel movements vary from multiple times a day to unable to go for 3 or so days at a time.

Have you had the stool samples analysed yet, or your scan for ovarian cancer?

TBH your symptoms do sound like IBS, but I'd be concerned about your GP diagnosing that without ruling out other things.

Stool sample and CA125 blood test were clear.

Hi, sorry to revive an old thread but wondered if you got to the bottom of your issues @RanchoRelaxoWithoutRelax ? I’ve been having almost identical symptoms: sporadic extreme upper abdominal pain, but mainly pelvic/lower abdominal discomfort…

Deedoo · 10/11/2024 07:32

I'm suffering exact same any update

Deedoo · 10/11/2024 07:33

@RanchoRelaxoWithoutRelax @MeOnSea how are your pains I have the exact same and Iv had a few tests done and nothing yet. My upper abdominal pains are horrid across ribs to the back and period like cramps

MeOnSea · 10/11/2024 08:32

I’ve had various tests, GP queried kidney stones after some blood found in urine but a ct scan came back clear. Smear test clear. Blood tests showed anaemia. Pelvic exam by GP showed I have a bit of a prolapse. I haven’t had a repeat of the upper abdominal pain for a while but am struggling with ongoing pelvic and rectal discomfort. I am wondering if it’s hormones as I’m sure I’m in perimenopause and in the absence of any other test results.

I get the abdominal pain near ribs across back and pelvic and lower too. I had tests done privately and had a polyp on gallbladder but was told wouldn't cause my pain! I also get really heavy periods now never did before
