Low on potassium

I've just come out of hospital (one night only for chest infection). I've been ill one way or another since november, chest infections, pneumonia, sepsis, another chest infection and then another and now this last one. I've had every test under the sun and now they've found that apart from everything/anything else, I'm low on potassium.

So I now have some effervescent things called Sando-K. I am supposed to take 2 three times a day. "Plink plink fizz" I was told, which is quite fun. So I do plink plink fizz and drink it. It's fine BUT IT'S SO SWEET I FEEL SICK AFTERWARDS. What can I do? I'm tempted to preface it all with "scatter scatter" of salt.

Advice please. I'm not sure I can take anymore.

Oh I’m sorry that sounds gross! If it’s only after that you feel sick, can’t you have (as an example), some salted peanuts or a bag of crisps or something after? Something to negate the sweet taste or at least neutralise it? Or can you dilute it in more water so it’s not as sweet?

I can barely drink a whole glass of the stuff as it is - I've never been into sweet drinks anyway and generally only have unsweetened tea, milk or water. I think I'm going to try do without over the weekend, eat bananas, and call the doc on Tuesday for advice. I can probably get potassium tablets from our health food shop or somewhere and maybe they'll let me do that instead if I get the right dose.

Tried the salt, just made it salty and sweet.

Had a brainwave though. VINEGAR!! So, almost as much ordinary vinegar as water. It'll fizz up beautifully and get slightly warm. When it's finished fizzing, drink it. Not exactly delicious, but a darn sight nicer than either f the other choices.

Thanks for your help, I wouldn't have thought of it without trying salt first!
