Would reasonable to go A&E tomorrow?

Hi all, just wanted to check I wasn't being unreasonable and maybe wasting NHS time. So beginning of last week, I developed a headache to just the left temple, this headache has now been constant for 10 days. Sometimes its agony, along with occasional shooting ear pain, which can wake me during the night, rest of the time its constant but some what manageable dull ache. Which even paracetamol/ibuprofen won't shift. I developed some toothache, along with waking up Tuesday which a swollen and droopy eyelid on the same side as pain. And now a slight puffy cheek.

I went doctors yesterday and they're unsure yet, but have suggested for me to be booked in for an MRI and bloods to be done, but unknown when this will be, and have another appointment next week. In the meantime if I get one of the headaches that exceeds my current ones (I said on a scale they are a 6/7 as don't really know my pain threshold, although they are very painful, and the dull ache like a 3/4) on a larger scale to go A&E.

My Blood pressure and heart rate, we're also quite high.

I honestly do not feel myself, probably because of the constant pain, appetite very poor and sleep, look and feel absolutely dreadful. Even though the headache hasn't exceeded what was suggested, would it be wrong to go A&E?

I'm thinking now after the toothache on molar tooth and gum it maybe an infection that may of spread? As symptoms seem to fit. Would this be something A&E can assist with? I'm in between moving to a new dentist so not something they can help with if it is this.

Any advice greatly appreciated if I can not waste NHS time, and especially to help the pain xx

Didnt go last night as wanted make sure children okay, but no better today, have rang 111 and they said 45 minutes call back and if exceeds that will be passed to Ambulance service. Both cheeks and eyes and now puffed up. Told Ambulance on phone it wasnt necessary to send an ambulance and not waste their time/resources and if necessary I can make my own way their. Thanks for asking though, will update later. Currently looking like Theodore from the Chipmunks 🤦‍♀️

Please go. That doesn’t sound right. Perhaps an abscess? Please go

Not sure how old this thread is... no to a&e... but I'd be getting my eyes tested and my teeth looked at...

milkonesugar35 · 04/05/2024 06:08

Hope you went op

coffeetoday · 04/05/2024 18:09

Thinking of you OP. I went to a&e with severe facial swelling from a wisdom tooth out and they took it very seriously

LindorDoubleChoc · 04/05/2024 18:17

Sounds like your GP was negligent in not putting you on anti-biotics immediately. I had a sudden swelling in my neck last year, went to GP following day, she put me on anti-bs immediately but was still getting worse after 2 days and was advised to go to A&E for IV anti-bs. Mine was a lymph node infection after a common cold. Hope you are OK OP?

WineOclock2019 · 05/05/2024 00:14

Sorry late to update, been pretty out of it. I did end up attending A&E, and staff were glad I went. Luckily given the wait time on app was seen really quickly. It is an infection that has spread, hence swelling to other areas and headaches. Hopefully these antibiotics kick in soon. Thank you for asking all though, sorry to hear some been through similar, it's awful isn't it 😔 xx

WineOclock2019 · 05/05/2024 00:43

And @quietlifeneeded please refrain from offering other people advice if not qualified, or been through similar. Eyesight and teeth fine. And I nearly didn't attend A&E after your comment, even after them wanting to send an ambulance which I declined. Which could of resulted in being critical, as looks like was spreading to brain. As I didn't know if i was being dramatic, I hate wasting NHS time, hence why this was the first time I've attended doctors/A&E for myself in four years.

Sorry, only just realised my updates from mobile are from are from newest name change. I originally posted on laptop 🤦‍♀️ Thank you all though xxx

milkonesugar35 · 05/05/2024 07:20

Oh op I'm sorry it sounds like it's spread but I'm glad you went and they've given you strong enough antibiotics to get on top of it quickly
