Optician's concern

My husband had his eyes tested on Wednesday. New prescription issued, later that day optician called to say she had seen some liquid behind his eyes and was referring to GP. An appointment to see a specialist has come through today for next week.
He has type 2 diabetes and had a diabetic eye check about a month ago which came back clear.
Should he be concerned?

How worrying. If I was you I would ask the optician if you should be concerned? They have all the information will be best placed to answer your questions and put you at ease.

I went for an issue with my eyes recently (dry eyes) and I'm diabetic - GP rang me a few days later to say that the optician had passed the consultation notes onto them. I was quite impressed.

My Dad was diabetic and it ravaged his sight even with good insulin control. I would say they're doing their job well and it's great you've had such a speedy referral. Diabetic retinopathy isn't something they mess around with and if there is an issue hopefully it's been caught early.

I'd be grateful that the Optician is so on the ball. My mum's completely missed the fact that she had a detached retina and she could have gone blind. I hope everything turns out well for your dh.

Most likely will be diabetic macular oedema which is fluid at the back of the eye.
That's good he has an appointment so quickly! He just needs to be assessed and they will run through treatment options with you. It can be serious if you just do nothing. I wouldn't over worry at this point.

Thank you everybody for your comments.
I am very impressed and grateful for the speed of referral, having waited so very long for appointments for other conditions he has, I guess this is why it made me anxious....
