reactive or viral arthriitis?

Hi

following visit to GP this morning seems I have viral arthritis following an infection of slapped cheek, which my son just had. For a few days all my joints have been inflamed and so so sore. I am normally very very active (run 5-6 times a week, walk everywhere) - I'm not basically not able to move very much and terrified this is going to be long term (based on my google searches).

Has anyone got any experiences and any suggestions as to what I can do? (e.g. should I rest or is gentle exercise worth it?) GPs taken urgent blood and virus samples to check for nothing more sinister but seemed to think it was viral reaction. I already have a chronic illness (endometriosis) which causes enough problems. the thought of feeling like this for a long time is sending me to a very dark place.

Hi, I had these after Scarlet fever from my children. It cleared in a few days. The doctor recommended ibuprofen which helped a lot. It was mainly in my hands and wrists.

I had this, it’s incredibly weird but did go away quickly (matter of days). Hope you feel better soon

oh thank you both. that is reassuring to hear, as everything I've read has been a bit doom and gloom (but i suppose people tend to post in the worst of situations!).

I have been on the sofa all day, which sounds like a dream but I'm mainly just grumpy and in pain! Thank you again

Just to say, you're not alone. Had SC last week and now have swollen hands/feet and lots of pain/stiffness. Hopefully it will pass for us both soon.

You have prompted me to book GP appt though so thank you, I was sort of ignoring it but it's got worse since it started on Monday.

Oh I'm sorry @hailholyqueen yea do go to GP I got some stronger painkillers and they did do blood tests to rule out stuff.

I would say - tentatively - things are getting better for me. Joints less stiff, still some swelling, legs pretty sore and still quite fatigued but def improvement. So I hope you get some relief too. Utterly weird virus reaction!
